Yeah - should happen right after Winnipeg gets their team back.

NO :))
I'm not currently in a mood to translate a bunch of articles and facts about this project. But, you can search the internet about the latest declarations of Gary Bettman and Bill Daly about Quebec and Winnipeg...More especially those that have been done after the meeting in New York between Bettman and the CEO of Quebecor Media (PKP).
Derfel, I don't really care about Winnipeg. I live in Qc and I want a team back in MY city. But let's say that Winnipeg deserve a team more than Phoenix and Tampa Bay. I just don't know how is the project in Winnipeg. I hope that it is going well and that they will get a team for the next season.

Woot Nordiques... I don't suppose they're going to bring back the old original team are they? (I really don't feel like looking for myself)

I wasn't saying the QC shouldn't have a team. It's just that Winnipeg has a new(er) arena (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MTS_Centre), and the 20th richest man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Thomson,_3rd_Baron_Thomson_of_Fleet) in the world willing to bankroll the team. I would think as soon as one of the existing teams goes up for sale, it will be in Winnipeg first. Then the next one goes to Quebec City for sure.

lollll I don't understand the last part!
They did a big market study to know, for example, how many tickets we want to buy each year, how much we want to pay the tickets, where should we build the new arena, etc. This study also suggestto bring back The Nordique. I don't mean to move the Avalanche back to Quebec, just to name the new team "Nordique". Anyway, you just have to come to Qc to see that people would be really disapointed to get another name for the team ;)

I agree - if they call the Winnipeg team anything other than the Jets, there will be rioting.

I'll take a new team in Canada pretty much anywhere, but
Winnipeg deserves it, then QC. I was given a Nordiques shirt this past winter =)

We will see...Like I said, I hope that both cities will have their team next year!
Also, I think it has nothing to see with money. Otherwise, a billionaire like Jim Basilie would be able to buy a team.
I have been told that Bettman is looking for 2 importants things: a big arena (20 000+ seats) and a HUGE/AWESOME media coverage. This is exactly where Quebec City wins. The CEO of Quebecor Media is a very rich man and he can provide this coverage:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebecor_Media
David Thomson could buy Quebecor Media with less than a quarter of his own personal wealth. Just sayin'. Besides - all of the newspapers and sports teams in Canada would cover a Canadian team. Bettman wants AMERICAN media coverage...
... and Bettman said on HNIC that Winnipeg has everything in place for a team... just needs to find one for sale that isn't Phoenix, apparently.
EDIT: Here we go -
http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/Canada/20100607/bettman-hockey-winnipeg-100607/
"I think people tend to rewrite history," Bettman said Sunday night in an interview with The Canadian Press. "When the Nordiques and the Jets left, there was no building and no possibility of a building. And there was no one who wanted to own a team there any more. You can't maintain a team in those circumstances.
"Those two factors have apparently (changed). In one case it's been reversed and in another case they're trying to reverse it."
Bettman is confident Winnipeg's MTS Centre is capable of housing an NHL team and has heard from key officials in Quebec about their desire to build a new arena there.
Just as importantly, he has received serious interest from prospective owners. Mark Chipman and David Thomson of True North Sports and Entertainment made a serious pitch to buy the Phoenix Coyotes and return them to Winnipeg, and Bettman says he's heard from more than one "substantial" group in Quebec.
...
"There was a possibility based on what was going on with the Coyotes that a franchise might be in play," said Bettman. "And Winnipeg had expressed interest over the last couple years and they were in a position to make a bona-fide offer. ... The fact is -- with the prospect of owners and the prospect of having, unlike when we left, a building that could be suitable for an NHL team -- the dynamics had changed.
"With that franchise and that city there seemed to be at least the theoretical possibility that it could happen. Actually it was more than a theoretical possibility -- it could have happened."
Instead, the wait continues. At least hockey fans in the Manitoba capital can take some consolation in the fact that they seem to be next in line.
Quebec City needs a new arena before it can seriously hope to re-enter the picture.
"I know the mayor, the premier and the prospective owners have been in various discussions," said Bettman. "My understanding is the building may have something to do with a future Olympic bid."
The longtime commissioner says he has several items on his to-do list and doesn't plan on taking much time off over the summer.
"Maybe a long weekend," he said.

Many teams have to move: Phoenix, Tampa Bay, NYI...
FYI, all...ALL...the rumors in Quebec City turn around the NY Islanders. The most crazy one is that the team has already been sold and that they wait until the end of the season to do the announcement. I don't really believe this one...but it *might* be possible...that's why it is a rumor :P
Maybe that this rumor has something to see with the 2 pre-season games the Islanders are doing in Quebec City next season...

I'd call them bandwagon jumpers. But that usually calls for a winning team. In the case of Toronto Fans I would have to say blind ibediance is more likely. Keep lovin' your losing team of 4th line players who want to be paid like first liners. Maybe... One day you might actually make the playoffs. As for the amount of fans. Well when we don't play Toronto the crowds average age goes up from 4 to 25.

I wouldn't bank on a team returning to Winnipeg to be named the Jets, or Quebec to be the Nordiques. Minnesota isn't the North Stars!
However, I hope that any team returning to Winnipeg, Quebec, or Hartford will go with the old name and go with the old jerseys too!

Oh, ye of little faith - living in Winnipeg for the last 8 years or so, I know if the team is called anything other than the "Jets", it'll be a riot at Portage and Main for sure.
I'm surprised no one questioned my assertion about Hamilton already having had an NHL team, though...

I tend to pick a team by around October 1st to follow and cheer on. This year it was Vancouver. Last year it was Ottawa. The year before? Colorado.
Next year? Winnipeg.
