I love the a-patch, but I also use pidgin if I want to cut down on ram usage. There would be a lot of things I would change if I knew how to compile though. Maybe I just need to look through the list of plugins more

I used to use Trillian. I disliked the fact that you loose a lot of the functionality from MSN. IE inviting people into conversations, using remote assistance built in, being able to see emoticons, playing MSN games.
I used to use the mess.be patch and I found that sometimes it wouldn't save my message history which was a real kicker because I MSN drunk sometimes and it's bad news when I don't know why someone isn't talking to me anymore.
Right now I'm using a-patch and the only thing I've noticed is that I still can't play my MSN games which kinda sucks. Is anyone experiencing the same difficulty?

I played 1v1 Solitaire against DS a few times without issue.

I chat log with MSNPlus (for the exact same reason), the only time I have an issue is when I leave msn alove for over 12 hours, at which point it tends to crash and I loose my unread IM's.
I'll give a-patch a try to see if it helps with the crashy-crashy.

I've been using Messenger Plus! (http://www.msgpluslive.net/) written by Patchou. He used to have an option to remove the ads on Msn, i haven't tweaked it for Messenger Live yet, but i'm sure it does have that option.
Alternatively, you could get a different skin for it. I found this one earlier today:

Fairly better looking, sleek, no adds, and all the functionality... as far as I'm aware, at least. Haven't encountered any problems as of yet.

1 v 1 Solitaire is an oxy moron. Stupid Msn....

I used to develop skins for MSN, it's a huge pain in the ass and you need to do alot of work every time they update the client... thus I gave up after releasing my first skin.

The main reason I lite Trillian is you can see when someone was last logged on. Especially now that my bf works nights....it's added comfort seeing that he has signed on when he got home at 5 in the morning. But yeah I agree you lose a lot of the functionality. I will flip back and forth between yahoo / msn and trillian depending on who I am talking to.
Has anyone tried the alpha/beta versions of trillian 4, yet? Astra, I think it was. I know it's in "closed" beta, but I've seen a few copies floating around. I'm curious to see if they added support for offline messaging, which is my main concern. I hated opening trillian, only to get several blank messages from friends.
