I need to get a new set - what do you guys recommend. Price isn't really an issue (no optimus maximus) and I would really prefer a red decor.

I hear the guys above have the best mouse pads around, haven't actually tried them for myself though. They have red pads in glass and cloth (and the cloth mats come in a couple of different sizes). Plus, you can't go wrong with a company that uses Engrish.

It's the same as Razer Sphex surface but big enough to cut in two and have a backup for when the first half gets worn or dinged from rage slamming a mouse into it. http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/scottan22/smilies/bleh2.gif

I have owned every gaming mouse worth owning (I have an obsession).
The best ones are....
Razer deathadder
and
Steelseries Xai (especially if you have smaller hands)
Look at the shapes (and try them in your hand if you can) and pick which ever of those two you like more TBH. Screw the rest (especially Logitech).
Steelseries makes great surfaces, and I really love the NP+

Keyboards in the running, because they are red:
Thermaltake eSports Challenger Pro
Saitek Eclipse 2

G110 and G510 have entered the mix because of their ability to be red as well. G510 seems to be leading the race atm.

I found the 510 for $99. It has great reviews so unless someone has some real horror stories i think i will pick it up tomorrow along with a Lachesis for $65.

I have a Lachesis Wise, (the older model 4000 max DPI only one colour :D) it's pretty solid for me but not everyone likes it, it's not curved in one way (that's why it's ambidextrous).
I really like the multiple buttons on the mouse though, great for binding it to change songs on music players and the DPI switcher is extremely useful depending on what game you are playing.

Yea - i dont want to have to tape a pad to my desk - also the glass finish will mean it won't be "wearing down" any time soon.

I meant just for him, I have a sphex and it sticks to my desk just fine (AND to my laptop for transport :O) either way I think the japanese pads the way to go.

Right now I'm using a cheap razer goliathus (or something) I bought at LAN ETS because i forgot my plastic steelseries at home, I actually like it better. It's cloth and fairly smooth. I think i'll stick to cheaper pads for now, as I'm not really sold on the marginal utility gain and I'd rather have a variety of options depending on my mood

They actually had the G510 on sale for $15 off but i found it even $15 cheaper than that. Total of $50 pricematch savings.

I got a g110 keyboard (not sure how that compares to yours, I got it on sale when I got my new comp, but it retailed for a similar price point), and it has macros, somewhat alterable backlighting, and some handy features that I like, such as the windows key lock and the volume rocker wheel.
got the wireless g700 mouse to go with it, although I nearly got a Xai. no regrets -- the mouse can do macros too (which is hilarious to me), and has this cool switching wheel feature where you can flip between notched and freewheeling. Also, the wireless on the mouse doesn't seem to lag to any noticeable degree. (not hardcore enough to care anyhow)
as for a mousepad, did research, got a cheap steelseries cloth pad (the ~$10 one)... and it's pretty great. Had a Razer exactmat before it (don't know where it went), and I used the "control" gritty side, and I liked that too. cloth seems grippier, but w/e
I agree with Mike, aside from aesthetics, unless you're pro-gamer material or run ridiculously low sensitivity and need one of those massive desk devouring size pads, something fairly cheap will prolly be just fine.
p.s. I like the pink :D
