Personally I think the whole argument stems from what we consider the word "practical" to mean. I think Wise and I figure it means "useful in everyday life" while Fil figures it means "a part of everyday life by extension of velocity and fluid dynamics" :))

Yes, I know speed is a differential -_-" The point I was trying to make is there are other, much more practical ways of calculating speed besides using calculus. As an example, I imagine that in a vehicle, the speed on the speedometer is based off of how quickly your wheels are turning.

look at it however you want mr. math wiz, and don't assume stuff about me either. BUT speed is distance over time, i.e. taking the difference in distance wrt difference in time, it's a differential HOWEVER you look at it, there's only one way to calculate speed and that's somehow getting distance over time and that's a differential. If you happen to come up with some magical way to find speed that doesn't use distance divided by time in one manner or another show me please.
