The Source SDK has been updated with content and tools to create maps, models, and textures for Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. In addition to support for games in The Orange Box, the Source SDK can continue to be used to create content for other top-selling Source engine-based games, such as Half-Life 2: Episode One and Counter-Strike: Source.

Included in the Source SDK are:

The Hammer World Editor, which provides the capability of creating custom levels for Source engine games
Valve’s custom Faceposer tool that allows users to produce choreographed sequences in the Source engine
A model viewer that allows artists to preview models and their animations quickly and easily
Source code that allows mod makers to create their own game based on Half-Life 2 or Half-Life 2:Deathmatch
All of the tools required to make build custom textures and models for Source engine games

Future Source SDK updates will provide new development tools, as well as source code for creating single and multi-player mods that utilize the latest Source engine features.

I tried it and it works on start-up. I hope it's not serious though.

But I must say...finally!

well some of us used the work around, and encountered problems doing certain things. I hope they fixed those issues atleast, but from what I can see, its not any different for the things I was doing with the sdk.

As many of you have already noticed the Valve SDK has been updated online and so there are some problems you may be having getting Hammer to load and your maps working correctly. The SDK has been updated with content for Episode 2 and Team Fortress 2 as well as Portal.

Unfortunately they have admitted to not running a beta test of this version and are basically testing it on us. Hammer will not load correctly at present without changing a couple of settings.

This can be solved very easily. Follow the steps below to make sure that Hammer will load and you can then load your maps into Half Life 2.

1. Open Steam
2. Go to the "Tools" tab
3. Right-Click on Source SDK
4. Select "Create Desktop Shortcut"
5. Find the Shortcut on your Windows Desktop
6. Right-Click on the icon
7. Choose "Properties" at the bottom of the menu that pops up
8. You will see a dialog appear
9. In the first field labeled "Target" add this to the end of the text that is already there (make sure to leave a space): "-engine ep1"
10. Click on "OK" to close the dialog
11. Now load the SDK from that shortcut you have made
12. You will always need to run the SDK and then Hammer from that shortcut
13. You may need to do this on each new computer you use until they patch this problem
14. Everything should run as before
