We're going to be having the LAN at HyperionGL (http://www.hyperiongl.com/) on 370 Yonge St. (http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&time=&date=&ttype=&q=370+Yonge+St,+Toronto,+Toronto,+Ontario+M5B,+Can ada&sll=49.891235,-97.15369&sspn=20.901759,58.710937&ie=UTF8&cd=1&geocode=0,43.658642,-79.381928&z=16&iwloc=addr&om=1) on the 16th of December.

We have about 24 seats with computers available and an additional 7 workstations (only 28 chairs) at $15 a piece for an all day (10am-10pm) pass.
Post saying if you can make it or not and I'll upgrade this thread as often as I can with how many seats are left.
If you plan on bringing your own PC/laptop make sure you include that in your post!

Guys, be advised, there is probably only space for four people to bring their own rigs. I would suggest that those who are going to bring their rig that it is only the laptop users.... so first four to mention it will be able to bring theirs.

SKULLCRUSHER
November 25th, 2007, 02:16 PM
My only concern is leaving the place for an hour or so for lunch Juan. If we get there around 11am to set-up and start the event at say 12 noon.... if we leave for lunch by the time we all get back we will have already wasted half the day. If we bring pizza in around 1pm then guys can grab a slice and a pop and get back to fraggin and there will always be someone playing.

We are also going to try to organize some tournaments live 5 vs. 5 and stuff. I have approached a few companies and am looking for sponsors for this and the bigger 50 man summer LAN event. With luck, we will have the space and sponsorship to house our ever-growing community for these events.

I spoke to one of the owners of HyperionGL and they are very interested in working with us to do regular events at their facility. If everything works out well for our December LAN, we may have found a new home for our LAN events.

I think she'll be pretty turned off to that stuff after Winston goes around offering people anal.

There's a wicked Thai place a block north of Yonge and Dundas, it's normally packed because of it's good food, low price, nearness to Ryerson and lack of Asian places to eat in TO. Anyway, if there was room, it'd be sick to go there.

Mano also told me there were some really hot places on Church street, a bit north of Carlton. Not sure what he meant by hot.

Hi all,
I tried to post last night, had some difficulty.

Our website is a little out of date.

We are running Steam for Cafes with 8 licenses, which means that we can sign in 8 people on store accounts, and they have access to CS, Halflife, and TF2. All the machines were updated yesterday, and will be updated and reimaged before the LAN.

You can also log in to Steam with your own account, but you will only have access to games already registered to your account.

Fabulous D
November 26th, 2007, 01:19 PM
hey nice! we really appreciate your help HyperionGL :)

> im pretty sure all of our guys have thier own accounts so that should work perfect...

mano? are we going to rope off a private server to play in or how is that going to work?

manofphat
November 26th, 2007, 01:58 PM
yeah I was thinking about setting up a private CS and TF2 server with some custom maps that we could have some fun with.

As the gentlemen from HyperionGL mentioned above: Please make sure you bring your Steam account login information!

Please check the first post to make sure I have the games on your steam account listed properly and post any changes.

8 people that haven't purchased CS/TF2 yet will be able to use Hyperion's accounts.

I bet richmond would be better, but there won't be much of a difference.

Will we be able to park around there? I was planing on going to the Keele subway stop and taking the subway

I'm tempted to bring my wicked new computer, but I'm really not a fan of paying to park downtown, nevermind driving downtown (I've had enough of that.) The 401 to 427 is bad enough.

There's a Jack Asstor's at Front/University.

There's also a Casey's but it's TERRIBLE.

Baton Rouge at the Eaton Centre. really yummy food, relatively cheap.

Greenjeans in the Eaton Centre too if you like Banana Chocolate shakes.

Elephant and Castle you'll want a reservation for a group that huge. One of my class reunions took over a good chunk of that place.

My fellow band geeks and I were in Korea at an Outback Steakhouse after an (and yes, what you are about to hear is very geeky ^ ^) Honor Band performance and it took us nearly 45 minutes to work out who was paying how much. Elephant and castle is good but small iunno if we wanna be shoulder to shoulder with random people let alone feeling their breath on our necks or i'd have to carry a stun prod, Green jeans ehhhh Baton rouge is ok but its a gamble cause their kinda picky with their reservations. I know theres a korean bbq nearby BUT who knows who wants togo there and we would have to take over the whole place for us hah

manofphat
November 27th, 2007, 02:53 PM
maybe I could have Elephant and Castle give us like a section or something?
If I call to make the reservation there I'll express the space concern and see how they can address it

[ADDON] I just called the restaurant and she said that she has a reservation available. She could put us upstairs at two different tables and she said that we should be okay for space.

[ADDON] I'm open for more suggestions. I think it would be nice if we could find something within walking distance. Has anyone ever been to the pickle barrel (http://www.picklebarrel.ca/home.html)? Here's their menu (http://www.picklebarrel.ca/menu_atrium.pdf)

There's an econolodge at Jarvis and Gerard. I stayed there for 4 nights on business in toronto. It's right by Ryerson, so it's close to downtown, but you could also walk up to yonge and bloor if you wanted to as well. It was about $95 for me a night. If you dress up nice you could say you're on business, you could also play around with the online rates, they have good deals at choicehotels.com (i think that's the site)

I'd have thought TF2 would run better than CSS due to the multicore support

Of course you'll have to turn the graphics down (I have mine maxed out). The great thing about this place is that I don't have to bring my own computer. Sure they're not as good, so what? I'm lucky enough not to be 15 and really into showing off my own build

Krythos

the only problem I had with their computers was that when we were logging in and out of the tf2 server, if me and cujo both wernt in, the game laged for the one who was in while the other loaded the server. and the game seemed to run fine on whatever graphics the computers normally set on otherwise

(Andrew):

We are glad you guys are bringing any and ALL issues to our attention. We plan on having every computer in here cloned and re-imaged for December 16th. Any and all lag issues will be dealt with before that date. We stand by our guarantee that we are the most clean, efficient, and fun atmosphere for LAN gaming available in the downtown Toronto area.

I encourage you all to return to practice, and help us solve any issues that you may have as a gamer.

SKULLCRUSHER
December 1st, 2007, 03:04 PM
Thanks Andrew, we appreciate the effort that HyperionGL is going through to ensure a rock-solid gaming experience for our members. As I mentioned to you over the phone, we are looking for a place to make this a regular monthly event with our members, and hopefully when a few sponsors jump on board we can start turning this into something even bigger.

I had hoped to drop down to see you by now, but work has been a little hectic. This week looks more favorable, so hopefully I can stop by and check things out.

Andrew, if we brought a PC down of our own to use as a local server, will there be any issues in making a connection to this PC so we dont have to over the net to our main server on Front Street ?

Please let me know if there is anything else we need to consider or bring with us.

Guys, remember, there is limited space for you to bring down your own rigs, so please check with us or Hyperion directly to ensure they have the space for this. For those that perfer, you can bring your own keyboard, headset and mouse if you prefer to use your own and their PC's.

Food is still up in the air, although I recommend we all just chip in and get pizza and pop delivered to Hyperion for lunch.

There is a Pizza Pizza literally right down the street so pizza is probably your best bet on easy relatively cheap food.

Ouch.

The big thing that's going to hurt this comunity (as it's Source based) is the CPU's in your systems.
My little brother runs a Skt 775 Pentium D @ 3.0 GHz, similar to your PC's, where as I (at the moment) run an E2140 that has been overclocked by 100%, The E2140's retail for about $70 and if you were looking to upgrade your whole line im sure you could get a better price.
More to the point, they almost all have the capability to overclock by a solid 80-100% without too much of a climb in temperature or voltage.
Most to the point however, is the difference between the performance of my PC (E2140) and my brothers (Pentium D, much like yours) we run very similar hardware apart from the CPUs but because Source was C based, I tend to average double the over-all performance in CSS with similar performance differences in Crysis and World of Warcfraft.

Just some food for thought.

Also: Let's not do pizza guys, the restaurant idea is one im a big fan of atm

ORION

In either case is it really so hard? Or am I the only one here who has about 12 of them sitting in a toolbox under his feet right now?

You guys are a 5 minute walk away from the Eaton Centre, which has a LOT of restaurants in there as well so if some of you don't want pizza you can always take the trek over thataway.
