View Full Version : Are these TF2 servers timing out on games by design or by accident?

There's nothing more disappointing for me than a good tight game that runs out of time and ends just because there's a big rush to..... get to the next map.

Well the map has to timeout sometime right? Or else it would stay on the same map all the time. It tries to wait for the next round to finish but it if takes forever, it just stops the gameplay. Increasing the timer won't fix the issue because then it'll just happen later on in the game

So there's no way for the timelimit to be met but if a game is not complete then let the current game complete then rotate? I understand you can't let the game go all night, but how often would that happen that another 5 min or so would ruin things?

what mano is trying to get across is that the timer has 2 timers to it. when the first timer ends the round will be the last. but as in like granery where if you have too good defensive teams the map could last 10+ hours (if people stay that long the teams consistantly battle over the mid etc) and we want the maps to rotate through, not be on one map for 10 hours cuz both teams are good. do you see the point? on a big map like granery, where 1 capture might be all you get if your not super quick at it, the game can last a very, very long time, and thus the second timer is needed, because it forces sudden death and a map change, to allow for a rotating, rather then being stuck on one map for 10+ hours. the final timer was more then likely over when I joined, and i was on for over a good 10 miniutes.

Instead I could do away with timelimits and put winlimits on

granery would have to be like a 1 limit for those really long games. I dont speak for everyone, but I know that I would rather the game cut out eventully and be on a time limit to enjoy all the maps roughly the same ammount of time, then be on a win limit

Sudden death I can understand, it's a good way to gracefully end a stalemate. I'm talking about when the game just up and stops. I've had that happen a couple times since I started playing here. Yeah, I've had it elsewhere too, but I'd like to find a kind of TF2 home. :)

im pretty sure that the reason certain maps dont get sudden death is because the map either doesnt have a setup for it (not sure if its the map or the server, think its the map) or the conditions that bring sudden death are not there.

yeah I think it has something to do with the map configuration.
Maybe a combination of winlimit and timelimit? I'm open to suggestions

I don't think winlimit is going to help, that's what leading to the stalemate.... but then only if it's a tie. I dunno.

Is there a way to have whats'er'face count down whenever you want to end a match? Maybe if it isn't in the config supplied by Steam, is there a plugin like mani?

How about show a leaderboard at the end of the match? I think the thing that's throwing me off on this server... I think it was this one... is that the game just quits the game and starts loading the next map.

oh. No that's not us. When our time is up it stops gameplay and shows the scoreboard.

I think the winlimit will help because it'll stop the game after a team reaches the limit instead of in the middle of the game which is what I gather is annoying you.

Mani is available for TF2 but it doesn't include that functionality.

No no. That's us. I know exactly what Mr. Slick's talking about. Sometimes, near to the end of a map, we'll be kicked from the map, and start loading up another, without a clear "You Win/Lose/Suck" message.

It comes up with the scoreboard. As if you were to hold TAB right?
I've never had it just switch on me. If it were to change abruptly, there was always the scoreboard.

Nothing about anyone winning or loosing.

I've seen the scoreboard - I know what that looks like. I'm saying that I'm taking my Engineer over to build a sentry, it starts building, and then right then and there, the map changes. No message, no scoreboard, nothing.

Map change.

Well your post made it seem like you were missing the "BLU WINS" and the MVP list and shit at the end.
I've never experienced what you are mentioning.
Let me know next time it happens so I can take a look at the logs

What I saw was no scoreboard at all. Other servers will show the scores (wins and ping) and not the overall win/lose.

Today as I'm playing for a few hours though, everything's been great!

Servers are fine, leave things how they are now. Along the same lines as the custom map post...

The reason TNR servers are so popular is because of the following:

No settings that alter default gameplay
No Custom Maps (that suck)
No Mods that affect gameplay (that suck)

In the future, if there really is a custom map worth playing on then maybe a 2nd server setup could be altered but right now, the custom maps are horrible.

We have three TF2 Servers current 'in play', and while I respect your opinion, its really up to everyone as to whether or not we should have one Server running Custom Maps.

Hmm - this gives me an idea...

I think the best method if it is possible is for when the map time limit runs out to just let the current fight finish (ie the time runs out or the other team caps) and then for the map to change.
