I Would try to play TF2 and stuff like that (orange box) and it would say prepare for launch and then it would show sort of a mini clip of my desktop and all the windows then switch between that and the normal desktop and if i clicked it it would go all wierd and then i would get an alert bar that says Hl2.exe has stopped working, and its also been doing that when i go to quit the game. I reinstalled the orange box and it doesent do it as much but sometimes it does and i just got a new comp pretty good too so i dont see the problem.

Perhaps you can try to Verify Integrity of your Game Cache. Open Steam, go to Games, right click on TF2 and go to Properties, click on the Local Files tab, then click Verify Integrity of Game Cache. If that dont work.... me dunno.

Sounds more like a video issue to me. Have you tried messing with your card's driver settings, or installing new/older drivers? *shrug*

When you start the game, don't click on another window. It sounds like the same error I have, and that's how I avoid it.

I get that same problem but only when im running two monitors. Like KT said though, if I don't push anything while the game is loading it works just fine

There's a lot of variables that could be causing it. What are you other system specs, and do you have the latest Catalyst drivers?

I just got this infernal machine yesterday. It has Vista on it. (Curse Vista.) For the first two times I launched TF2, it did exact;y as you say -- tried to launch and constantly minimized and then re-showed the game window.
After attempt 2, it's been gravy. Starts up without a fuss. I'm not sure who to blame here, but I don't really care now since it's behaving. =P
Edit: I made no configuration changes between attempts two (crazy minimizing) and three ( perfect launch), except change the power setting to 'High Performance', since apparently, unlike the Macbook, there are no global power profile differences between Battery and AC.

Well if it's working now then I guess it's not an issue. The best way to figure out how to get that info would be join us on Ventrilo one day and Mano can walk you though it.

IF that doesn't help and you have about 10 minutes to kill refresh your clientregistry.blob file. Just find it in your C:\Program Files\Steam folder and simply delete it. Then restart your steam and it should re update all the needed files for steam. I had that same hang issue and this fixes it every time.

Well you'll have to redownload that file, but Steam takes care of all of that. You should be fine.
