or don't because they have a hideous habit of lowering fps because the sound has to be passed between multiple (more then onboard or pci) buses before it reaches the speaker... sound cards usually raise fps on the other hand because onboard requires the cpu to process the sound data where are most pci sound cards have an onboard audio processor that, when detected, prevents the cpu from procssing the audio data and instead redirects it to the sound processor.
