Pretty crazy. Discuss.

The music was unnecessarily scary. Some of the snippets are old and out of date. but other wise its more or less the same stuff that's been said a thousand times before, shits getting faster, better, more powerful, and we soon wont even be able to keep up with that we started... (knowing full well that it's hard to make reference to age on these forums) which is kind of intimidating to us, or more so our parents, but then again, our parents didn't even grow up with the internet and for those of us who spend as much time on it as we do, the thought is a little bit weird of not having access to just about any piece of information we want.

I just fear the typical, 'AI' taking over the world and outsmarting us and thus ruling us. Considering we probably do the same to our pets, we consider them as, yes, pets, but I wonder how they consider themselves. A style of living, most definitely, rather be wild, but, being a pet prolongs their life but gives them less to worry about and be bored. I wonder if we'll soon become the 'pet' to computers, considering they do all the work for us, and we gain all the benefits, but in a sense, we are no longer in control of our life. Maybe not right away, but after a while won't we forget how to fend for ourselves, much like a pet? Won't we not be able to live in the wild alone? I don't know. I just hope the future us does not rely too heavily on thie massive machine incase it ever does leave us.

thats great and all, but as of this moment the 'human race' does not have the ability to program an AI capable of taking over the world even if we wanted to... and its not going to spontaneously generate itself either...

... i still thought it to be a pretty interesting power point of some cool but hardly related significant facts. The first half was all about populations and how the US isnt as big as u think and then it suddenly jumped to computers.

Still. Very interesting but wtf is "shift" ... what do they mean by "shift happens" are they saying the CAPS LOCK is going to accidentally bring around the end of the world? As if a president is going to accidentally yell at another president and start a nuclear war?

or maybe shift = change?

i didnt understand the significance of the england in 1900 fact

Entropy
March 15th, 2007, 12:40 PM
The significance of the 1900 englnad fact may be the power shift between countries. U.S. dependencies are diminishing and shifting to other countries. For example outsourcing computer programming jobs to Asia where they can pay pennies an hour compared to North America. What we see today will most likey change drastically in the next decade.

AI will not exist, and its not posible for it to spawn on its own. The closest thing to AI will be some dudes life work on a AI program ,which started on his commodore 64. AI would have to be programmed, and programmers have to program the program to do that. haha

The thing I'm worried about, not AI, is the fact that we'll lose the sense of doing it ourselves. We're fortunate that the world's electricity is a forever refueling object so we'll never run out, but I just wonder, what if we somehow lose the ability to use computers, the whole typical nuclear fallout age, where we go back to horses and buggies. lmao. This is most definitely abstract, but I think it would be a cool thing to dicuss. I think right now we could survive a nuclearfallout, considering there are still people that live without technology, (ie. amish), but in 100 years, will there still be people living without technology, or will the norms of humanity require us to have a little bit of technology in every life? Once it passes that brink, can we still survive something as drastic as a nuclear fallout, where we lose all technology and start afresh? It could happen, even without a nuclear fallout, just one random occurance screwing us all over, making us restart. I just fear, through evololution, we'll lose our physical build that we have evolved into, considering we'll have computers and technology to do everything for us. We'll start looking like those aliens from outerspace, skinny as hell, big heads. They couldn't survive in the world without their technology. Hehe.. yes bare with me, but just take this with a grain of salt, do you think we could survive a world without technology now? Probably yes. But in a 100 years? Hrmm..

I dont think theres anything wrong with letting technology make our lives easier...

... but there is a certain level you have to be aware of, if what you said didnt feel so EMO i would have agreed with you more.

You should read the Prequels to the Prequels of Dune.
Butlerian Jihad
Machine Crusades
Battle of Corin

its the story of how after human lives because so easy that one of the AI's that was looking over a planet got out of hand took over that planet and eventually encapsulated the entire human race in the universe

For christ sake, stop with the emo shit. (Sorry wise, but just because a thing is depressing doesn't mean its emo.)

Sure it might be a little depressing for everyone, but its not like I believe its going to happen. I'm simply asking what if? I said take it with a grain of salt >< and I said nothing of AI. Just discuss as if it were to happen, and don't judge on the devils advocate here, just trying to strike up a conversation.

i have to say that felt like a waste of 6 minutes... we'll always have jobs no matter how fast computers work lol. they will always need someone to program / operate them / repair them... no matter what this will remain a fact of technology.

the birth rate brings up a good point: we don't have a "world hunger epidemic" we have a world horny epidemic... if you cant afford yo have kids... DON'T! its that easy
our world is run by greed of what we want and barely anything else... get over it, its not going to change, its human nature.

"by your fourth year you will have out dated everything you learned in your first" so? that knowledge gives you the ability yo learn the new information.

and veng u bring up a good point, its a little "Hitler esc"but seriously if there wasn't technologies there would be no weak people who sit around all day, they would have died out, i.e. evolution, ( think someone had this on the other forum maybe krazy )

what im TRYING to get at ( still sick and cant rly think str8 ) is yes the Amish can do it, i feel confident that i can do it but how many else can? within the next few generation i believe NONE. we are thought things threw our fathers, mothers, grandfathers, etc not threw books, books can help but they cant REALLY teach.

i liked the book "the girl who owned a city" when i was younger, all the adults over 14 died and the kids had to try and survive, the author wrote for a younger audience but a good book. and the "stupid" youth is obviously not that stupid ( refering to us the computer generation ) as we have made a mature thread and for the moat part managed to continue it! lol

i thought the "outdated work" fact was extremely dumb. if you want you're job to be the same for you're whole life be an accountant. OR you can have a job in a specific industry that changes all the time and you are always on your tippy toes. that is more exciting.

so what? change my job everyday. at least i won't fall asleep.

In ten years time there will be a new thing that will strike a new fear in the heart of man.

In thirty years it will be something else.

Hell, could be every 5 years.
The problem with the world now?
We're too worried about tomorrow that we keep missing today.

While being well informed on these facts, it's better to let progression continue than anything else. Cause as a race, we will get smarter, stronger, faster, more advanced itellectually, you know etc etc.

In the end, as long as a computer isn't doing open heart surgery or keeping me alive when by all means I should be dead.

I say "Game On, pass the red meat, and bring me some junk food!"

the next world war will be fought over water not gas...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xw5Fon_EjGw

the U.S. wants canadas water... and big bottled water companies are trying to privatize all water... there have already been several riots in europe and southamerica over corperations claiming to "own" the water..

> U.S. bottled water companies are sueing B.C. over not letting them take their water to sell which has caused them lost profits
> The WTO is currently deciding in a world court if water is a basic right or a product that can be bought or owned..

all in all its fucking crazy.... drink from your tap ffs dont support water pirates!

tap water has flourine in it helps to prevent cavaties. Bottled water rots your teeth

Entropy
March 16th, 2007, 03:50 PM
actually flourine has a strong affinity to calcium in our bodies which can be normal, but it will then combine with magnesium ions which isnt, and since they both share the same group(2), it can affect the enzyme functions in your body and screw up your metabolism, bone formations, muscles, and cause other fun toxic stuff. It can also influence brain functions in adults, and not in a good way.

I love how this video tries to measure the immeasurable.

And yeah, fluoride is bad (most in toothpastes comes from industrial waste from Florida), but naturally occurring is supposed to be good.

man what are you talking about... the fact that their's flouride in your water is likely the sole reason your teeth arent rotting out of your mouth right now!

... havent you heard teh recent reports about kids with rotting teeth becuase all the drink is bottled water? which contains no flouride
