In the Halifax/Dartmouth area, or hells, maybe I could get it shipped from Toronto....
I busted up my MacBook a month ago or so. In backpack, Snow slips on ice and falls on his back, crunch, no good.
I'm not really taken with the idea of bringing it into Mac specialists and having them charge an ungodly premium for diagnosis and repair... and as much as I loved the little guy I think I can get an older PowerBook to adequately step into the role the MacBook played for less than the repair price. =P
Something around 400MHz and AirPort would be great, RAM and HD size don't matter.

But perhaps the real question here is why are you bothering with an inferior OS?

Yeah, if you did a WTB for a new Belt Orion would criticise you.

Oh, I've already ditched the preinstalled Vista on my gaming laptop. No worries there.
Oh, you meant OSX! I didn't realise not being subject to Windows exploits coming in every which way was being inferior. Or being based on BSD was inferior. Aw, hell. I know what you're getting at. Even with an Intel processor the Apple logo just brings them right down to TRS-80 status. Damn.

3 minutes, not bad.
As for the Vista remark, it's an OS that actually has a lot of potential when you take a good look at it.
I find it ironic though looking at what Apple stands for now as opposed to what it was back in the Woz days when it was actually good.
I've heard 1001 people tell me how Mac's are better and more reliable then PC's which I can scoff at and refute with little things like proof (God bless BIOS's that track up-time) but I know that the number of people who I'll actually convince not to buy a Mac is minimal, it's just the way Mac's are marketed. People who buy Mac's (typically) deep down aren't people who want a powerful piece of computing equipment, a unique and stylish aesthetic, and adaptive, secure, dependable OS. No. FTMP People who buy Mac's want a Mac, end of story.
Something I've grown to live with but it wont stop me from slamming them the same way they tend to try and slam other OS's.

Nice makin me out to be a mac fanboy. I just happened upon just after you'd posted. But if it makes you feel better that I was waiting to pounce on this LIKE A HAWK.

Potential for what? being XP? I have no truck with an OS that swaps constantly to HD with 2gb of memory. I'll give it the leeway of being a retarded Toshiba load though.

Hey, you're the one who started this with the 'inferior OS' comment. ;) I still use XP, as I've said, on my gaming laptop. I GAVE MICROSOFT MONEY for XP (insert suitably dramatic emote here). I like XP for gaming (but not Vista... until I can try a clean Vista load I'm steering well clear and I'm NOT shelling out money for off-the-shelf Vista, sorry) and I like OSX for day to day shit. I don't know if it's coincidental that I got huge amazing battery life on a laptop running OSX and terribly shitty battery life off a Windows machine but if I went overseas again and got stuck in a pub with no AC you're damn right I'd want a MacBook over a Windows laptop.
I'm completely crotch-mangled on the fence. I like my Windows laptop for gaming, and I like OSX as a day to day OS. And I have a Sun stashed away somewhere with Gentoo on it (and three external bloody HDs) so let's have a three-way. Unless you don't want to touch my Apple-tainted cajones.

The 3 minutes not bad comment was for me. I try to be punctual with criticisms, mostly because I think I have some really wicked belts.
I agree though, I love Vista far more than 10.4 (haven't tried Leopard yet, sorry). Vista does have it's quirks though, my hard drive is in motion half the time the computer's on. I don't really have any problems with Vista at this point. The only things broken on my computer right now is the printer function, and my lightscribe drive.. Other than that, pretty good.

I consider if your hard drive is in motion half the time something is fundamentally flawed. What could possibly be swapping to disk so much?
I have Vista on recovery DVDs. If they get it right down the road I'll reinstall.
Leopard... meh, I bought it retail, I think it's a waste. I could live with Tiger.

svhost is a harsh mistress, other things are indexing, random Defender checks and other randomness. I also need to defragment, but haven't found the time yet.

Who the fuck gives a damn what he wants to buy as long as it's legal? Leave the guy alone. It's his business - stop the fucking bashing and useless remarks.
If you're not going to help him look for what he wants, don't fucking post.
Snowbow - Have you tried ebay/craigslist/kijiji? For those specs, that's probably going to be your best bet ;)

When was it Vista vs Tiger? :P I thought it was XP vs Vista and Tiger vs Leopard. Different shit for different usage. Leopard isn't crappy like Vista is though... although both are unnecessary purchases for Average Hosehead. (I'm sure you've heard the jokes about people 'upgrading' to XP from Vista.) Leopard because, tbh, I don't notice anything amazingly different to justify a $120 purchase, and Vista because it needs a couple more service packs under its belt before I can say 'Oh, crap, why did I spend $300 on XP when I have THIS glorious piece of software engineering?'
I have hopes that Vista will settle down and be usable, but as it stands right now, it's not making me forget OSX, which is what I've heard it's trying to do. Damnit, Jim, I'm a Windows gamer, not a... a... a regular-shit Windows user!
...
Anyways, about that PowerBook.

I dunno Snowbow was the one that started the post and seems to want to debate about different OS and seems to be more interested in that so lets continue off topic....

I've run on both systems for years. I've had both Mac's and PC's sharing desks for quite a long time. Right now I'm on an Intel based mac, simply because I can run multiple platforms (ubuntu, XP and OSX) on the one machine, it's got some specific software I use for research, and I like the monitor based design.
It basically comes down to your wants. I think they're trying to market a mac to the everyday computer use crowd, and after side by side comparison for years I think there's a slight edge that goes to the mac for that sort of useage. The word that comes up with new mac users often enough is "slick"
If you're actually USING a computer for something, like drafting, computing, gaming, windows has a much better platform. However if you're using it for computing and you're not running your own Unix platform whats the point ?
Personally I think the giant debate is a piece of BS. Use what you want to use, and if it works for you, great.
If you feel the need to pick on people due to an OS or piece of hardware, please book time with a professional for that complex of yours.

Ah, I'll be sure next time to ignore something as direct as 'settling for an inferior operating system' then. You're right. I shouldn't be baited by such tripe. I sincerely apologise for defending OSX and I'll wholeheartedly eat both Linus and Bill's dicks at the same time next time I have the chance.
