Currently we have:

20 CS:S clients
19 CoD4 clients
105 TF2 clients

Our server is running at an average of 40% CPU usage, 1.5GB of memory left to spare and only using 13% of our network capabilities.

I think if based on the server load and what not we should consider allowing other clans or what not pay us to host servers for them, I mean we are not really using our box at all to the potential that it can be used to so why not explore other options.

That's a good idea Don. I'll look into that.

Agreed. I think that we're going to have two CS:S pub rentals when the new season starts. We also currently host a TF2 pub for a friendly clan. They are moving up and renting the other half of our server for a little bit until they get their own.

I agree with many of the above opinions, if for no other reason, when a "company" gets too big, it's usually smarter to focus on "core competencies" rather than continued growth. (The candle that burns brightest, also burns shortest.)

I think it's a good idea to limit the number of Servers being run for TNR, and focus on procedures which could make some money, or get the name out there. This way, we have a number of "managed" Servers, thus limiting the need for more Admins, and we're not growing too fast.

One thing I'd like to point out is that for many years now, TNR has been growing slowly until just lately. Now that we've grown in leaps and bounds, it's the time for reevaluating the current configuration, and looking towards better management of the assets, and how we can grow the business.

Seems to be some bizarre lag tonight, is this the server or the internet acting up?

I did a ton of work on the server tonight

[edit] Current usage: CPU AVG: 46% - Memory @ 2.59GB/4.00GB - Network 13%

Part of the reason for the growth is the release of TF2 and CoD4, especially TF2. It's been a while since Valve released a game that was so instantly popular. I agree about limiting the amount of TNR additions - I think 4 TF2 servers is about the max our community needs, it's pretty rare that *all four* are full (although that might be because #4 has been a funny config server - customs, FF, and now gp). Same goes for the CS:S and CoD4, they seemed to have reached a stable limit.

You could host a CS 1.6 server and see if a community develops, it's still more popular then CS:S.
