Today's woot (http://www.woot.com).

I am looking for a really good pair of headphones. Does anyone have any experiance with these? Should I buy them?

For the price range, thats pretty damn good. Consider syndromes post, i'd say go for them. I've never used them though, so I don't know about sound quality. It still seems a little bit of a gamble, but isn't buying anything online or without first hand experience a gamble?

I payed 120$ for my headphones and they are beautiful. www.audiocubes.com (if you are willing to spend that much) lol.

But back to those, they look alright, I wonder if there is a trial period, like a waranty? Maybe you can send them back if you think they sound like shit?

the impedence is decent but the range, 20-20k, is less then impressive, a $50 set of zalmans will get you 5.1 surround and 20-30k last i checked, but then again, specs don't say everything, if they're an improvement at that cost, go for it :)

LOL you're ears can't even hear anything over 20kHz. the perfect range is 20 Hz to 20 Khz.

go for it. i'd

Thanks for your input though guys.

Zalman 5.1 sucks (from experience)
Headphones from Futureshop in the $50-80 suck (from experience)
Icemat Siberia suck (from reviews from people who care about headfi)

In general, anyone who makes mousepads won't make a good set of headphones.

Get real ones.

Audiotechnica ATH-500 or ATH-900 are both excellent choices (Veng and I own the prior, Skack owns the latter). Paired up with an X-Fi and it's like you're wall hacking with the sounds :)

whats wrong with a company branching out and making some nice headphones
and nightfall uses icemats case closed

ok honestly though i think that once u get over 50$ ur not really paying for a better speaker so much, its just the build and comfort
in what way is your japanese speaker better than my chinese one?

Headphone reviewers say the Icemats are not the best choice. Likewise for the Steelpad headphones.

"Overall sound quality is comparable to similar budget headphones and will leave audiophiles unsatisfied. " They compare it to a budget Sony headphones.

"they're like a middle ground between crap and decent "audiophile" gear"

"these headphones aren't "audiophile" but the threshold of audiophile depends on the beholder, and when you think of it, they never claim to be either. they're marketed at pc gamers and have the features that make them attractive and thus do quite well"

"When I got my AD700s, I was like "holy crap, the icemats are terrible" I mailed them back to California and had them returned. "

"Have A700's and they are fantastic for gaming."
"i've personally had a whole number of gaming headsets including the zalman 5.1 (utter crap), the Sennheiser PC150 (no bass, but comfy) and i agree that they just dont really cut it if you want decent sound from your pc."

"The DT770s and A900s are pretty close, but the A900s might have the slight edge for your purposes. I'd consider them to be the more "competitive" gaming headphone compared to the DT770, which I'd call the "fun" gaming headphone in this case. Both are fairly nice choices, though. I'd have no problem recommending either for competitive gaming."
"I would personally like to try a bunch out but my icemats do more than fit the bill and i only spent 40 on them."

---

I've read that some pro-gamers had to ditch their Sennheiser headphones because of sponsorship from a gaming company providing them with gamer headphones. Suffice to say, I doubt they were happy with that.

What's wrong with mousepad companies branching out into other products? Nothing really. Just don't expect a spectacular piece of hardware to come out when they probably just toss their name on some OEM piece of junk.

Comparison:
Dasani water from Coca-Cola. Sure they make nice soft drinks, but their bottled water is crap tap water put through RO. Aberfoyle kicks it ass.

OCZ video cards. They make good RAM, have a huge rep. Their power supply units are decent, but far from top quality like Seasonic. Now they're making mouses.

Burger King making video games?

---

Having personally bought headphones in the price range from $35 to $100, I can say from experience that there is a huge gap in terms of quality from $50 cans to $100 cans.

---

Bottom line:

If you can get Icemat Siberia for really cheap, they'll be decent for the price you spend but they might fall apart. If you get them for free, take them.

If you're spending ~$100, get good cans. :)

who ever wrote that is an idiot, just turn up ur sound with ear buds and you can hear through walls
and i seriously dont understand how audio technicas can help me hear through a wall better or get more surround sound, but i can understand how it might be better quality for music
and the weaker structure is for comfort purposes

lol landspeed dont be so bitter

It's all about the sound stage. Some headphones make too much of a separation of left and right, some of them squeeze everything to right infront of you. It makes a difference in both games AND music. When you listen to some music recordings, sometimes you can tell they're flipping a page of their sheet music, the violins on the left, brass on the right, drums at the back. Put on some junk headphones and then you can't hear the small details, and everything's just in your face.

how could it be in ur face when u hear from the side and the speakers are on the side
lol but i do know what u mean and u can change it with the x fi surround sound cmss 3d business

ORION

no, you can emulate it, but changing and compressing frequencies to slightly alter the sound is notably less effective then doing it right in the first place (as is true with all emulation)

You'll want to get closed headphones if you go to LANs so your headphone noise doesn't leak out.

LOL - I figured you would be.

I've sent E-Mail to Woot! a few times, and they've always given me a very quick reply that "We'll have shipping to Canada available soon!" but that's been about a year in the making, now, so I'm not holding my breath.

I'll keep up the fight, tho! I can't wait until Woot! can ship to Canada. They have some great deals - including their "Two-For Tuesday" deals, where you (usually) get two of the same item for less than the cost of one item! (...and you can't beat $5 shipping!)

That's only because when he gets pissed he pulls them off his head and launches them at the wall. The F10 button on his keyboard is also worn out.
