View Full Version : *MY* vista experience...

I usually tend to format my computer with a fresh OS every month or two. I had overheard a fellow classmate snatching Vista off a torrent so i asked him to burn me a copy and he did. A couple months later (yesterday) i decided it was time for a format and chose Vista. Within about 5 minutes of installation i was able to find a cd key crack which emulates dell/asus/sony etc. motherboards eliminating the need to add a cd key. I then continued to install my regular programs, firefox, winrar, msn, winamp, windows update, video drivers, sound drivers, board drivers, steam, guild wars etc. As i was letting halflife2 install i went to the local pub for a couple beers and a pool game. As i returned i had noticed white/grey lines streaking down my monitor realizing that there was an error with the video card drivers. I restarted thinking nothing of it and changed the power settings. I then installed guildwars went to change the resolution and once again i got the white/grey line streaking so i restarted. Then found a quick fix by changing the windows theme back to original vista from the aero theme. Once i got this fixed with it working properly with counterstrike i decided to hit up some regular servers. While playing aztec i realized that my frame rate was ALOT lower for no damn reason at all. I checked my system resources and noticed Vista was raping around 700mb of ram! I also noticed guild wars stuttering a bit as well. On top of all this my microphone input would not work and was later informed by a SiD member (dont remember who) that vista doesnt support PCI sound cards, which is quite pathetic
Other than the fact that Vista is not very well designed for gaming its built in firewall is the most annoying and useless pile of shit i have ever experienced. I cannot open a fucking folder let alone install drivers or change some settings without the OS lagging up in a faded screen just for me to hit allow every time!
but i admit the GUI is quite impressive for windows but it is a complete rip off of ubuntu and OSX
all in all this is the worst god damn operating system i have ever installed, the support for it is complete ass which makes this OS what it truly is, worthless.
and before you guys say that i should check if i had everything updated i did and do.
-Most recent bios flash
-Video card drivers
-Windows update
-Sound drivers
-Board drivers
everything!
well now its back to XP already!

That SiD member was me (Orion != SiD member), Strimen was there and said your mic was fucked, I said it was because there was no PCI support, but Creative (yeah, Creative, not Microghey) has a codec emulator you can try (which is horribly inefficient as it has to convernt codecs back, forth, and back again to establish any sound, but they are also working on a full-blown patch.

Lack of OpenGL support means less FPS for games. (CS)

pretty sure u dun have to do that when u purchase it... also... define "emulating" a motherboard... if it anything like every Emulator ive ever used to emulate anything... tis gonna rape on the resource, or at least affect ur performance

yes because it such an inconvenience to download a 1.5meg fle
secondly the emulator tells the os on *startup* that it is a factory built computer (dell, sony etc) therefore eliminating the requirement of a cd key for the os to function normally

with xp its simply replacing one file that checks if you have a legit version of xp...windows is a joke in terms of its security
if you like editing files while they're in memory... yeah, it's pretty easy to work around the winlogon.exe file thanks to the help of uTorrent.

Why even touch Vista? Let's try to come up with 5 good reasons to switch from XP.
No security reasons, because a good switch/router+software firewall trumps w/e Vista has anyways.

I like it because it's the "new thing" and I like new things.
As an aside, all of the issues I've found seem to have workarounds, and I'm having a ball with it so far. I really like what they've done with the Media Centre, and I'm planning on upgrading my second PC to Vista shortly, so I can build it up into an HD-PVR.

that is pretty cool, but i gots a free copy after doing the beta...i don't use vista cause it rapes my computer resources...but once I get a new comp, hopefully some time soon I can use it. I never found a problem with vista for the few months I used it but I didn't really use it for playing games, but all the drivers and stuff seemed to work and it was pretty

I'm confused - so, you're allowed to post your opinion on a "forum", for which it's sole purpose is to solicit others' opinions, and Orion's not permitted to post? (Not flaming - just asking... ...and I'm really only asking because of your choice of language in the rebuke.)

For those of you thinking that Vista may be the way to go, but are unsure of the hardware required, visit this site:

And Zimba man, was there really a need to tell Orion to go fuck himself? Opinions are opinions, and yours is not the only one that counts.

For anything to do with sound cards, KXProject drivers are currently driving my SoundBlaster Live! Platinum, which is unsupported in the Vista environment.

Vista is a piece of crap in that it hogs lots of system resources to run. XP is just the lesser piece of crap; come to think of it, it is the perfect metaphor for you Zimba.
