hey guys,
I'm looking to pick up a new cpu cooler as i've about had it with my zalman cnps7700 alcu and its partially broken fin. I've read a lot of reviews and a tad hesitant on what to get. It seems that the Tunig Tower 120 is the creme de la creme, however with shipping it would be almost $70, opposed to say an OCZ Vanquiser or something for $40. I'm really leaning towards the Tunig Tower 120(found one with a fancy blue led light as well).
What cooling solutions are you guys running, any input would be great!

I'm running that Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro and it's great! $25 dollar cooler than is insane! Cools just as good as some of the more expensive coolers. They have it for socket 775 as well. :P Might be worth a shot? I have a 900mhz overclock and my temps are still lower than most.

Freezer 7 Pro is pretty good @ $25, dropped my temps about 4-5C degrees below stock, same can't be said about my Thermalright Ultra 120, which, with a 120mm fan on it (as it's designed passive) turned all the way up (400 mA fan, Silverstone.) sounds like a vaccuum but under load sits easily 15C below similar conditions on stock. Shit was something like $50, it's pretty big, but it rapes.

I get 3.15GHz out of my E4300 (1.8GHz stock) and 58° under load. Great stuff for $20.

Hell yah! I'm running an Opteron 165 1.8ghz @ 2.7ghz on AC 64 Pro with temps lower than most stock processors :P

Cheaper at the sister store, Direct Canada : http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10450AC4602&vpn=FREEZER-7-PRO&manufacture=ARCTIC%20COOLING
and I would choose that if you want something cheap$$$ and relatively quiet (compared to the other solutions) as well as pretty effective... of course that's if you have a socket 775 processor (Intel Core2Duo or QuadCore)
What's your processor and motherboard (some coolers don't fit on some motherboards)

The Ultra120 is sawweet! I've been using it for a while. I'm running an E6600 Overclocked to 3.42 GHz running at about 50c under full load.

More Info -
Budget - The less i have to spend the better, it seems that $70 is the max i'd have to pay for air cooling. Which i dont mind paying for qaulity.
CPu - Amd Athlon 3700+, socket 939, will migrate to E8*** in a few months LGA775. Currrent mobo MSI k8 Neo-2 Platinum.
Overclocking - hell yes, looking to get as many mhz outta my cpu as possible with adequite temps. However i do not want to hear a vacumm when i use it so nosie level is a big point.

Budget: Ultra 120 is within your budget
CPU: Ultra 120 has brackets for both socket types listed
Overclocking: Ultra 120 rapes face for cooling, designed to be passive it comes with no fan and still manages to beat stock temps. Even with a $10-20 120mm fan it's both under budget and raping mad OC face. My vacuum comment from earlier is only when running my fan at 400 mA, which I believe denotes about 3500 RPM, and when you consider that the average 120mm fan runs at 2k-2.2k RPM typically, you shouldn't have noise issues, bought that fan because I want to submerse it in oil -> no noise.

Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme $50 + Shipping
Intel E6300 @ 3.5Ghz $120 ( used )
120mm fans ( X2 ) $10
keeps my cpu which was stock 1.86ghz and overclocked too 3.5Ghz @ 1.45 volts.. a nice and warm 32 degrees at idle.. and 57 degrees during stress tests.
The best bang for the buck that i've owned.

Also: Ultra 120 fan mounting clips are garbage, my ONLY complaint about the cooler, invest in electrical ties.

Fan has low RPM/CFM/Noise, if that's what you want with some flashy LED's that you're well on your way, there are much better performing fans on the market, but they wont have the bling and they very well may be alot louder.

Get a Scythe Slipstream fan. Those are the smoothest and quietest fans available when undervolted.
If that fails, a Scythe S-Flex fan also works.

I dig the cool LED's though, none of the premium fans have them =/ Any suggestions with the bling effect? (As the cooler passively cools like a champ the fan added solution)
I also read that you could incorporate 2 fans on the frame.
ps - wes i know you got hook-ups, i've e-mailed Directcanada to see if they could incorporate the s939 bracket with the package as the extreme apparently doesn't have it, would you be able to snag a s939 bracket or something? jsut looking for options ya know =D

Oh lawl, that's right, 939 has a single centralized pressure bracket with locking clips on one end, inb4 put holes in the motherboard, as it were...

I think the point Wes was trying to make is that a fan/heatsink combo is likely going to make more of a difference in CPU temp than thermal paste will.

when i toggle fan speeds with this

i get 1C difference
while in many reviews and tests with thermal paste, getting the right stuff seems to make a larger difference

it obviously doesn't do 110 cfm or is as quiet as 40dba, but its not a terrible fan

I can attest to the 110 CFM part, if I set it down it honestly tries to hover... but it sounds kinda like a vacuum at that point.

I used to run a Silverstone FM121 on my heatsink and, well, IT WAS LOUD.
I've since switched to water-cooling and the three fans on my radiator are quieter than the one Silverstone fan I used to run. Don't buy anything over 26-30dBL if you are sleeping in the same room as your computer.
Like was mentioned earlier, the Sythe S-Flex are good fans, but really all you need is something that'll do 60 -75CFM at less than or equal to 25dBl. Whatever fan that fits those parameters and wont cost much, buy.
EDIT: I still have the Silverstone FM121 and its just sitting in a box unused (actually I have 2 other unused an quieter fans as well). If you're in the Toronto area, and want it, get in touch with me and it yours for free.
