Very nice - I only wish I had a picture of me with the other (see: real) Stanley Cup... My friend is good friends with Ron Ellis, and he took us through the storage room at the Hockey Hall of Fame, where he showed us the "real" Stanley Cup - the one they don't let people take pictures with.

From what I'm told, they don't even give out the real cup to the players when they win it - they wouldn't want that much history to be damaged, should any player accidentally slip and drop it.

I wasn't allowed to take pictures - but I was allowed to touch a lot of history that other people never get to see.

Anyway, here's my submission:

If i won the stanley cup and they said i could only have the replica i'd tell them to go fuck themselves...i think that's a rumour. the only reason they have the replica at the hockey hall of fame is because the real cup is on vacation like 360 days of the year so people all over can see it and take pictures with it.

I remember hearing on the CBC radio that the original cup is very bittle, and would shatter if dropped so......."There are actually three Cups that exist; the original bowl, displayed at the Hockey Hall of Fame; a duplicate, made by Montreal silversmith Carl Petersen, which is the one awarded to the champions of the playoffs and used for promotions; and a replica that is displayed when the playoff Cup is traveling."

You know how many times the stanley cup has been misplaced, lost, etc?

Sorry I'd rather a good piece of history be locked away safe and a replica be tossed around to the players.....and I'm sure anyone that sees the cup as the icon that it is agrees.

Players have done some stupid shit with the cup.
