Captain spots remaining: 1

Ok so it has been decided that at the LAN a tournament will be held. The way it will work will be as follows:

First Captains will be picked a total of 6 will be up for grabs. Captains will be chosen based on the order that you post. Also the order of captains will be susceptible to change based on the turnout at the LAN. ie if only 25 people show that have PC slots only the first 5 captains will be used, hopefully this is not the case.

Secondly captains will pick based on a draft system. The way the draft will work will be as follows Captain 1 through 6 will pick and then the order will reverse and it will go Captain 6 through 1 then reverse again that way being the 6th captain is not necessarily a bad spot. Also the pick order is not set from 1 to 6, numbers will be picked at the lan provided you show up.

Once teams have been picked two elimination tournaments will commence, one for TF2 and one for CSS. It will work as follows.

Bracket A - Team 1 vs Team 2
Bracket B - Team 3 vs Team 4
Bracket C - Team 5 vs Team 6

Winners move on to round robin

ie.
Bracket A Champ vs Bracket B Champ
Bracket A Champ vs Bracket C Champ
Bracket B Champ vs Bracket C Champ

Someone will now have 2 points they move on to the finals. Two teams are tied at 1 - 1 the way it will be decided will be based on the match that you played against each other so if you won that match you would move on to the finals

If anyone has any questions or concerns post them and I will try my best to answer them.

Captains

Team 1 - Richard (SharpShooter)
Team 2 - Andrew (Orion)
Team 3 - Roadkillith
Team 4 - ChikenKannon
Team 5 - Nekkris
Team 6 -

Also I'll take that second slot.

Changed, ment to add that.

It's only fair that the captain order is randomly picked. I can write names down and do a drawing if you guys want. I can even take a video and post it!

No, we need to draft, because things like skill, and BYOPC make a HUGE difference, no luck of the draw on this shit.

SharpShooter
March 24th, 2008, 10:32 PM
I believe FourierT was talking about captains but like I edited, thanks to Orion pointing out that we will put numbers in a hat at the lan and do it there so it is all fair.

The reason that we are doing both css and TF2 is to apeal to both groups atending the lan. There are a lot of css players that I am sure feel the same way about TF2 but we are trying to acomidate everyone.

Regarding consoles I have no idea how many people are interested in doing that. I am sure one could be put together if there is some interest.

However as of right now we are trying to focus on both CSS and TF2 as that is the main reason that everyone is bringing their PC's.

Thanks for the input though.

what about 6v6, teams constant for CSS and TF2. You can stack for one game, or aim for balance.

Or people can just say which game they'd like to compete for and we have a smaller group.

You might want to take another look at the list of people attending, Sharp. I can break down the list if you want, but it's pretty obvious the list is a TF2-regulars heavy list. No offence, but TNR isn't really a CSS community anymore - it's really TF2-driven community with some CoD guys and some CSS history. Don't get be wrong, CSS is the game everyone started on.. but times have changed.

Of the list of 30, I count at max 10 ppl who I'd consider the "CSSers", and I think you're going to get a lot of ppl not interested in CSS at all. I think it'd be more fun to do a TF2 and CoD4 tourney rather then a CSS one.

At the very least, the TF2 tourney should go first, since TF2 was kinda snubbed at the last LAN.

Oh, and I'll sign up as a 3rd Captain.

manofphat
March 25th, 2008, 08:27 AM
The list shows that only one person doesn't have CS:S which makes it an easy game to have a tourney in.
There are only 17 people that have CoD4 and now that I've started thinking about it I know some of those aren't through Steam. So the people who bought the box need to bring their install CD's/key.

With all that said, I think it would be unfair to those who are coming to play a lot of CS:S if we didn't have a tourney for it and I also think that it would be lame if all the tourney's were based on one game.

If someone doesn't want to play in the CS:S tourney, that's fine but you're missing out on a chance at free prizes and you'd letting your teamsauce down :(

Given the focus on CSS at the last lan I'd honestly call it 16/30, mind you 30/30 I've seen on the TF2 servers, so yeah you have a point, but it seems like you're trying to play it up a little much. Not only that, almost everyone on the list has all 3, and even if you don't focus on a game, having it as part of the tournament makes things fun in that no one is overly prepared.

Of course I am, I'm trying to prove a biased point :)) lol but seriously, I'm just trying to avoid what happened last LAN.. a whole lot of CSSing and not much TF2ing.

I do agree that a LAN is about everyone having fun and playing together, so the point about everyone having CSS is pretty valid.

I haven't been to a lan that had prizes in a long time. I won a bunch of stuff at various Descent LAN's back in the late 90's. Sound card, video cards, and various tshirts and other small swag.
I entered the Descent3 $50,000 contest and just missed the top 8 by a kill or two I think it was. The top8 got all expenses paid trip to vegas for the final tourny. I could have paid myself to go down, but I wouldn't have won.

i thought tf2 would take over, and wise would be a king with his team, but that hasnt been the case

and dont even dare say no css, there are different parts to the community, many people have played css in the past, played on cal teams together and all
in fact many members, long time members, admins, are disappointed with the amount of tf2ers and people we haven't heard of attending the lan

Wow, this is just so...elitist. If there is such widespread disagreement with the people coming to the LAN why not just make it your private CSS LAN and only invite those who you deem worthy enough to come. If you want to have a community gathering in a community that is dominantly TF2 then your gonna have to accept the outcome of that.

Isn't the point of the LAN to MEET the people who you haven't heard of, so that you'll have HEARD of them. I thought I was old and cranky Gooch but you sir, take the cake, and that's no lie.

Lawlz to the Enth degree, well played sir, well played.
I'm sure the community is prominently TF2 oriented as CSS has fallen to the back burner, in at least my eyes. And it'll be great to play with you cats whom i have not met and get to know them on a personal basis all while raging in game with them as well. However to discriminate against css palyers(all 3 or 4 of them comming, and by 3 or 4 i mean those that play more css than tf2 again tf2 is dominant in this aspect for most of the community, which is fine bey me).
It'll be good times either way, and if there is a tounry with prizes, hook me up i'm down for whatever and so are you Onawire!

Aight everyone lets take a few steps back here. This community started around the game CSS yes it has moved to other games but we are not about to forget where we started from. All these newer people comming in and talking down to the CSS players is kind of disrespectful and this also goes for the talk that goes the other way. However, we have a community here and we have three different games that we play around here CSS, TF2, and COD4. At the lan all three games will be played and people will enjoy playing them. If you choose to not play one of the games that is your choice I am not going to hold that against you. I just think that in a community gathoring where we have a variety of players comming from the three different games to say that your not going to play the game that some of them have come to play is a bit disrespectful.

I myself am a CSS player, will I play some TF2 yes, will I play some COD4 yes. The reason that I will be doing that is to meet all the different people that play these games that I don't know. I just hope that you others will do the same so that this tournament can be a sucess. We are going to this LAN to have fun lets keep it that way please.

I think there are a lot more long term members and admins that are playing TF2 so the list of people on there are not that new to us. I am looking forward to meeting everyone.

I didn't mean to start an anti-CSS fest, but am merely highlighting that TF2 players got jipped last LAN and I don't want that to happen again. I also am pointing out the obvious.. that there are 3-4 full TF2 servers every night, vs.. well, I don't know how often the other servers even fill.

I think Onawire's "elitest" comment is pretty valid - there's been an equal amount of "high horse" comments from the CSSers as there has anti-CSS from the TF2ers. So lets all just quit talking and remember what a LAN is about :)

ill play tf2 and you will play css

Some people like TF2 more.
Some people like CoD4 more.
That'll always be the case.
The community likes them all the same and we're all part of the same community.
The LAN will accommodate all three games and we're not forcing you to play them.

Because we started out with CS:S last time, we'll start with TF2 this time.

Well said. Also, people are travelling far and wide to this LAN for a good time. I like to view each of the three games as complementary to one another: TF2 is good for when you want slower-paced, easy-on-the-eyes action. CSS is great for serious or critical gaming (though not necessary). CoD4 is an enjoyable balance somewhere in between the two.

If no one else wants to claim captainship, I can fill in if necessary.
