It gave out on me *crash*, and I'll have to do everything again. Going to be out 1-2 weeks. The doctor says I need a new hard drive. OH NOES, I'll have to perform surgery on the computer.

Lmfao, anyways, I won't be playing any CS for a while. It's a pleasant surprise that my old P3 still works.

lol HDD's ftl

my old harddrive had a failure, so i force booted it using knoppix and truncated the first and last mb of the drive making manual partitions using linux.

then i restarted and BAM new drive minus 2mb... i was even able to recover anything that i could fit onto my floppy disks from the drive :P (so all my important doc's)

I edited for spelling mistakes, not because I type PS3 instead of P3.

Just admit it silence - you REALLY want a PS3. It is not a sin.

So Gremmie, why don't you try loading CSS on your P3? As long as it has a Direct X 7+ card you might be ok.
Official specs:
1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, DirectX 7 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP/ME/98, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

If you have say a P3 800MHz you can probably play it tweaked.

My god, my P3 is shit compared to yours. It's a really old one too.

600 MHz, 256 MB RAM, ATI 3D Rage Pro, windows 98, I'm posting from it.

This came to me when I was browsing the thread. Amazing I never thought of this, but er...
Is it possible to have drive A to have windows, and drive B to store what not. So when drive A crashes, drive B has files still intact?

Define: crash
Do you mean drive failure or something like a virus?

speaking of RAID a friend of mine asked me to build him a computer, ill post a thread on it later for suggestions (he's got a decent wallet) but i wanted to set up a nice RAID on it and i havent before ... so if u have some helpful hints winston lemme kno!

i was hoping to hook up dual 320's or something of the sort

How important is his data? You can get pretty crazy with RAID. You can do like a sexy combinations. But yeah....I don't know too much about RAID.

i learned about the differnet styles of RAID in one of my CS classes last term, but we didnt talk about how u set them up, just what they do and which ones are useful for what, how data gets distributed between em etc, etc
