24/7 Dustbowl AND Goldrush server?

Hey,

So I don't know if this is a good idea or not, but I suppose that's up to the community to decide. I was talking to lefty about it, and he said I should post the idea on the forums to see how it does.

What I think might be pretty cool is a 24/7 dustbowl/goldrush server. In the recent days I've noticed that there's been some polarization of the community to different maps since the addition of goldrush. When I was used to seeing a full dustbowl server practically all the time (during the usual hours), I've actually started to see it empty... and hard to start up.

Anyway, I for one really enjoy both maps, but I get sick of playing either of them over and over. It'd be nice to put them together so that there'd be some variation without having to switch servers and get people to follow you to start it up. Maybe it could see a test run like the dustbowl/gravelpit server...

Just wondering if you guys would go for it. :)

I'm all for a 24/7 dustbowl/gold rush server since it's usually one or the other full most of the time anyways. Both are fun 32 man maps and I think it's a good idea.

Man, I'd love that. Those are my two favourite Valve maps. I'm not sure if that's because they've both been in consistent 24/7 rotation on the servers, but I do love them dearly.

If you ask nicely, perhaps manophat can retroactively add a yes / no / maybe / indifferent poll to this thread? I'm not quite sure how the polls work though.

I tend to split my time between GR and DB ; this'll allow me to increase my laziness by staying in a single server.

I'd rather it stay the way it is. The 24/7 goldrush server is just a few clicks away. It's not hard to switch servers if you wanna switch maps.

the people that play it (as in, friends/regulars you enjoy playing with having to make the switch as well)? the wait time to actually get in the server for those of us without reserved slots?

But id rather just seem them on diffrent servers just for the fact sometimes people are just in the mood for one or the other

And it is kinda hard to set up one or the other but ive noticed in general it seems like there is less people playing on the tnr servers in general because i remember servers filling up around 4

now im lucky to see them pack until like 6 or 7

I thought that the DB/GP rotation would have been a smash hit, but the people proved me wrong. I don't see how this change is different(other than being a different, newer map) or better than last time.

in short... I love both maps, I just think putting them on the same server would cause issues.

Goldrush is an extremely popular map right now. Having a second server that runs Goldrush sometimes wouldn't make it any easier to get into it. It'll be just a full as the other one.

but.. you dont see what im saying. once youve made it into a server. youre in. end of story. you dont have to wait to get into 1 server, then quit and wait to get into another. do you get it?

well if you use the connect through console you can usualy get in weather you have a reserved slot or not cuz there is usualy room over the alotted 32 or w.e the server is set 2

I have to agree with Mindwarp... While it sounds like a good idea in theory, I'm sure many (or at least myself) will be disappointed when they log on for some Dustbowl and are stuck playing Gold Rush for 10 ~ 15 caps.

I love both maps, but sometimes I want Dustbowl, and sometimes I want Gold Rush. It's nice having the choice between the 2.

Also, would both servers become Goldrush / Dustbowl rotations? That would be kinda weird. /shrugs

Though I'll admit this would make the dustbowel server playable (unlike the status quo: oh finally dustbowels over, you're on your way tooooo *drum roll* DUSTBOWEL!!)
