even beats eBay... wow.
NOTE: Does not include heatsink/fan so if you have a previous generation socket 775 CPU Heatsink (like a P4, Celeron D, or Pentium D) The heatsink is the same as a stock e6600 heatsink, otherwise heatsinks are still fairly inexpensive.

Yeah, I think I'm going to have to bust out my wallet on that one. I've posted my CPU on eBay (PM me of you want the link).

lol. AMD's aren't necessarily bad... they're just not the best.
even more recent price drops and the release of the 6000+ has proved this... in benchmarks it is not far behind the e6600
and now you can get a x2 4200+ for $150, now thats amazing.

Opinions are one thing, but if you want to throw around benchmarks and numbers, well links come in really handy.

Umm, the comparable CPUs are the AMD X2 5400+ and 6000+ which cost 379.99 and 664.99 respectively.
The conroe is still the better deal.

Actually, a well OC'd 4300 seems to be a good deal too http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core2duo-e4300.html
Oh and chris, according to prices at ncix.com, the comparable cpu to the am2 6000+ is the E6400 both around $300. http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?majorcatid=101&minorcatid=106
it seems price cuts are the only thing AMD has going for them at the moment.

You are looking at the 2 X 512 KB Cache not the 2 X 1 MB cache CPU. AMD knows that people look at CPU clock speeds to much for there own good.

price/performance, amd is still killing intel, im tired of arguing over this so im just gonna sum it up in one post
even now look at the price of a 4200($150) or better yet the 6000($300), do the math and compare the benchmarks

sorry the 6000 is $300

6000+ $100 cheaper than the e6600 and both have extremely close benchmarks(amd>intel vise versa in situations), so explain to me how amd only has price going for them?

Read the first post of this thread. e6600 for $300, why wouldn't you want to go with the more powerful processor when it's the same price?
Especially when 775 runs cooler and leaves more room to OC as well as being the beginning end of a CPU line up where as AM2 is the end? why not just get a 775 and transfer to a 45nm Quadcore when it becomes pheasable instead of having to transfer to socket F @ $400 for the motherboard and then the cost of the cpu?

well i dont overclock nor trust overclocking due to past experience therefore temperature levels dont mean shit to me, am2 boards are hella cheap as well, the $300 price for the e6600 is OEM as well
you will eat those comments about am2 as well when the new chips come out

Well, there is no sense arguing about this stuff. We all have our preferences and opinions for what's out there. I myself am an Intel guy and based on my brief review of whats available I will be going with the e6600 with an Asus MB. This MB is quad-core ready, so if I wanna upgrade to the quad in a year or so, this mb will do it, along with a second vid card.

What is socket F anyways? I thought the AMD server proc's used socket 754/939??
I know the older FX's would use 939.
WiseGuy
April 10th, 2007, 12:14 PM
Adam, after the 939 came the AM2's and now they're redesigning their sockets again... lol basically they're just making it hard for you to upgrade xD
ORION
April 10th, 2007, 12:14 PM
Socket F is the socket AMD is targeting with their new 65nm and their 45nm manufacturing processes (both of which are a while behind Intel atm) best of luck to AMD in catching up, once they start producing genuinely better chips, I'll be on their side, 'til then Intel ftw.

Apparently you can price the e6600's for 5 bucks, but if you dont have stock it doesnt matter how much they say they are. Tiger Direct has no stock and dont know when they will get more. I have to ask them if I order off the Net if I can still get one.
My MB and Vid Card just came in though, so woooo hoooo for me. Now I need a lone.

It'd be nice to see something to back that up, but it's pretty clear that would be hard to do. With CPU's it all depends on the batch that it came out of, or even where the specific chip came from specifically on the disk, with any luck you get one from a high-yield batch that went over very smoothly and has everything working as perfectly as possible.

word on the street is that intel is using baddie silicon and overclockers have noticed that newer batches arent capable of reaching as high overclocks as the old ones
