im posting this for aka as he cannot access the site. my guess is that its something to do with the update because he said 'for the past few days' he can come on.

mano?

/also he tried deleting cookies, temp files and so on and it still doesnt work... the only way hes managed is through a proxy, but doesnt trust them, so wont login with it.

Is he getting any sort of error?

no. he just says the site is down... so i assume the page doesnt load for him.

Did he have a bunch of invalid login attempts?

[edit] I'm looking into it now. Have him try in ~12 hours

bah. im not on steam right now, so i cant talk to him.

he didnt have any login attempts because the only way he could reach the site was through a proxy and said he wont try logging in through it. the page wouldnt load/open without it, thinking it said the url isnt valid.

Winston, wonder if its the same problem I was having. Get the IP's of the users who cant access the site and check them with our ISP... chances are they are banned too ? but maybe not.

Seems all the sudden I can get on again. But the site wouldn't load. nslookup couldn't resolve anything but I could log on through a proxy server.

In this instance you made 30 SYN_RECV connections in quick succession which led to your ban. Here's a note that I got:

If you can please explain to your members to not use browser tweaks like fasterfox, and dont use the crazy firefox settings taht is in a million tutorials all over the net.

Our protection is desiged around rfc compliant tcp connections. We do have some leeway on this since a lot of people tweak their browsers outside of rfc compliant settings so not many legit users should get blocked but as you know it can happen.

So should we be surfing the TNR site at a slower pace ?

I'm trying to think what would cause that. I have AVG link scanner that maybe it but I'm not using those firefox plugins.

Looks like a domain name expired.

My Speed Dial has www.thenorthernresistance.com saved and that brings me to a notice page saying the domain expired on 01/22/11.

Obviously, the site is still accessible through www.northernresistance.com.

no huge loss imo

yeah we had several domains that pointed back to the proper one (www.northernresistance.com). I'm letting them expire now. What I should have done is put landing pages on those other domains indicating they aren't the proper ones.

Yeah, I figured it wasn't a big deal since nobody else said anything. It was just the link that I happen to use. Just wanted to make sure in case someone forgot.

Something change again? I had http://www.northernresistance.com/ in my speed dial and it gives me a 403 Forbidden since yesterday. If you Google The Northern Resistance that's also the first link that shows up.

http://www.northernresistance.com/forum/forum.php is what works.

If someone had not pointed that out I never would have noticed. I can't remember the last time that I went to the main page of the site, I just have a link to the forums that I use.
