How many of you do it, and how are your specs?

I just recently spent a good amount of hours trying to OC my Opteron 165, and let me tell you i am quite upset with the results. It was supposed to be a beast but it turns out i got my hands on a shitty ass one. Its being a real pansy. Mine topped out on the low end with a stable 600Mhz gain. From 1.8 to 2.4, only 133.5%. I was quite upset when i couldn't break the 270FBS mark considering Syn hit 333Mhz with his.

I now have it sitting at 267Mhz x9.0 ( locked multiplier) with the appropriate Ram, HT and Voltage adjustments.

So lets hear your stories!

I haven't OC'ed since 1999

I took my CPU up an extra 10% from 3.0Ghz to 3.3, which gave me a solid 10-15 fps increase with CS and considering it's a P4 that aint too shabby. atm my pride for OC'ing is my gfx card, which after several custom cooling hard-mods goes from a core of 350mhz and a memory clock of 500mhz(x2) to a core of 480mhz and a memory clock of 675mhz(x2), thats 37% on the core and 35% on the memory, and all without any noticeable changes in stability or temperature. Sadly, i couldn't get the extra pipes outa this 6800XT but an extra 35-37% out of a $<200 card with a heatsink from a p2 (circa 1995) is something I dont mind bringing up ^.^

my gaming pc isnt OC'd but it is able to safely OC itself to 110% of norm on the fly. as long as u dont mind it crashing when u slow it back down to 100% later it works just fine. i personally doing bother doing that OC though my AMD Athlon64 3500+ is just fine @ it's normal specs...

Winston our Video cards are OC'd

Factory OC'ing shouldn't count, OC'ing should be limited to something
YOU did
AFTER you purchased teh card/chip that
*probably
VOIDED the warranty.

and plz when referring to increases in clock speed refer to gains alone (ie +30%) cause that 110% made me do a double take. :)

With Wise's help I managed to overclock my Athlon 64 3000+ (1.8 GHz) to 2.4GHz without any additional cooling equipts'.

It does not up my FPS too much, but the quality of the rendering is better now. FPS fluctuates less. Overall a better experience. Installing stuff also takes far less time :)

i used to overclock my GPU but then i realized it wasnt worth it... i could get between 8-10 % out of it before my textures on CSS started glitching. I guess thats what u get with u buy a GPU thats already 10-15% faster than its stock counterpart.

thats what ive heard too, ive also heard that the pentium 2s performed better in some aspects than the pentium 3s due to its structure...cant back this up 100% though

the shit out of my 2500+ haha

i also ocd my x1600 here
got amazing performance out of it.
before hand i was running about 70-80 stock fps, now about 178-180 oc'd fps.

oc ftw.

MMX added extensions for "enhanced multimedia playback", but it's basically just a hardware extension for faster math operations.
MMX is the precursor to SSE2, SSE3, now SSE4.
I think they came as Pentium 166 MMX all the way to 233 MMX.

Pentium MMX chips required special voltage regulator modules (VRMs) on your motherboard, so you had to purchase either an MMX capable board, or upgrade yours.

Pentium 3s are all faster than Pentium 2.

I think what you meant to say is that some Pentium 1 MMXs are faster than the original Pentium 2 Celeron chips (the original 266 and 300, NON-A versions.)

Celeron A's (300A) added back the missing L2 cache and became an overclocker's dream. :)

Oh! I should add, I overclocked my Pentium Pro 180 MHz to 200 MHz back when it was my router :) Now that thing was a beast.

wise your mobo could be holding you back.

WiseGuy
April 20th, 2007, 09:33 AM
syn, im sure it is... its loaded with OC safety crap... it prevents the system from booting cuase its gay, once i do get it booted it runs terribly stable and at low temps, its total gayness..

also, i think what zimba meant to say b4 his sources got crossed, is that the P3's ourperform P4's in certain types of calculations due to their architecture.. the P4's are essentially built shittier but have something like a 22 stage pipeline... now im getting this from what my proff was tellin us in a lecture 6 months ago so my numbers may be off a little bit.

Wesley Crusher
April 20th, 2007, 12:59 PM
Yeah clock for clock the P3 > P4, because of the huge pipeline in the P4's Netburst architecture. The P3 1+ GHz were tearing up the P4 1.4 GHz... I remember when my friend down the street showed me his new IBM P4 1.4 GHz and paid 6k for it... I was laughing pretty hard... and it had a TNT2 m64 to boot. ahahaha...

pig

holy fuck,

Saving Private Ryan is a horrible movie, with a good (not great) premise that's killed by Tom Hanks character.

Imagine this - you've done three tours in Vietnam, and you're told you can go home after going to the front and retrieving one Private Ryan, who has the unfortunate consequence that all three of his brothers have just been killed.

Private Ryan says, "damn it, Imma stayin' and finishin' this last mission!"

What do you do? You stay and help him, risking personal danger and even the possibility of imminent death?

HELL NO! You shoot him in the leg, and carry his sorry ass home! That's what would happen in my movie! He's already cost you the lives of some of your men, and he has the gall to say he's sticking around? Screw that.

Some of the best movies about historical events had little to no 'backstory', because the event itself propagated and carried the movie. Movies like Saving Private Ryan, Titanic and Pearl Harbor could have taken a cue from these, and not made their backstory so strong. Let the events speak for themselves.

Saving Private Ryan - two thumbs down.

Athlon XP 2800+ runs at 2.089 Ghz.

It's OC'd to 2.3xx or so making it like an Athlon XP 3000+ or 3200+, had to put the voltage a .10 higher, change the heatsink for a copper one.
