View Full Version : Warning: Connection Problem

Lately I have been coming across a problem that I have only been having in the TNR servers, but I can't tell if it's my computer causing it or the server.
What happens is the game lags and is then accompanied by the connection problem red text. The disconnect time then runs down to 13.0 (always 13.0 or 12.9 seconds) and then the game cuts back in.
Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me, and if this is not server related does anyone know how to fix this?

It happens on NO other servers? You using a Belkin router?

I'd start with something like Visual Route. Leave it running in the background and go play. The next time it does that close the game and have a look at where you're losing connection.
You will be able to tell if it's local or not.
If it's local, you're likely looking at some DHCP lease problem. I have seen alot of Belkin routers doing this lately at work. It got so bad that we had to start calling customers with specific Belkin version routers because they were flooding our DHCP servers.
Also, to test local, maybe leave some ping running in a command prompt and when it happens close the game and see if you're timing out. If you're on a cable modem your modem could just be flapping or power adjusting, causing your internet to freeze up while the modem adjusts its signal levels.
Clear as mud? Lol, let me know what you find i'll try and help however I can.

Just played for about an hour, the problem didn't happen :(
I got visual route and I will track all day tomorrow when I play because it usually happens 5 or 6 times in a day of playing
Also I'm not using a Belkin router, its a Dlink (the only problem I've ever had with it is that it interferes with my phones)

This does happen to me on occasion. I could not tell you if it only happens on TNR servers as I tend to only play on the TNR servers. When I play on the other servers it is usually only for a few min to wait for a spot to open up else were.

I get that occasionally also. It cuts me from the game for about 15 seconds, but I also get disconnected from vent. It's definitely an issue on my side, but I have no idea what it is. I wait 15 seconds and I'm good to go again.

It happened to me yesterday, I was out for about 12 seconds, then right back in.

Happens to me intermittently as well. The rest of my connections are fine however, just TF2.

Was just playing on number 3 and caught what I could with visual route, it seems one of the "hops" (or whatever they call them) on my connection route is having large ping spikes. I think this might be the cause, but I'm not sure.

... about 2 hours later
did a couple of pings using a command prompt
-the first command prompt i did i pinged #3 while playing on it and when the glitch occurred it gave a timed out message
-the second time I pinged a different TF2 server while playing on #3 and when the problem occurred there was no time out between me and the other server

I too have been noticing a connection 'burp'. Every 2 to 3 minutes, I'll get get dc'd long enough for Mr.Blonde to violate me in some new and horrible way.
It's only been happening for the past week(ish), and I've been on the Goldrush and/or the Dustbowl server.
I 'sometimes' play at work, but the TNR servers are empty during the daylight hours...
Anyway, I have a Linksys router, and a solid connection; and much like one of the other posters, I normally only play on TNR servers (unless they are empty)...I don't notice an issue on a random pub that I join.
If there's any specific data you'd like from me, just say the word, and I'll be happy to provide whatever I can to you cats.

Interesting that it's found to be a US IP address administered in LA California (going by the tech's area code).

Now, they're probably not going to want to talk to end-users, but I'm hopeful that a NR site admin could speak directly to one of the noted techs responsible for their IP addresses (I work advanced tech support issues for an ISP and use this method when needed). If they won't speak to a site admin then they should be OK to talk to NR's service provider's tech so you'd just need to get this info to them.
