K, I got my creative X-Fi extreme gamer sound card today and I can get the thing to work. I boot up my PC detects it and says the usual Found New Hardware click to install. The problem is it does not install, the wizard says it could not find the correct software. I've got the CD in my CD drive.

When I try to install from the CD it says the dive was not detected by windows.

Has some one had this problem before?

does dive mean device? if so make sure you have your onboard sound turned off in the bios ;)

Yeah, sorry about that. I get the message "the device is not detected". I've also disabled the on board sound card in the BIOS and still get the same message.

No, I'm running XP. I switched to another PCI slot and it worked; I have no clue why that worked, both slots are fine. I've got X-Fi extreme gamer sound now.

The card works fine. I called lucomputers, where I got it, and they said try the other slots. I put it in one slot had difficult with it then put it in the other slot. Then I turned off the on board sound and still couldn't get it to work. Turns out the PC had already assigned it to the original slot to it was like it wasn't there.

I compared both the Music and Gamer edition sound cards. There was only a 2 dollar difference in price and the specifications were identical. The only main hardware difference was a 26-pin connector to be used with the console upgrade on the Music edition card.

All in all, they both look pretty solid. Phil did mention something about three settings for the Music edition card that may be useful also.

Check your BIOS for the PCI section... I've had a couple of them assign specific information to the slots, and there was a "Clear this information" flag or something, which allowed the PCI slots to be reassigned when the OS started.

Yeah, I figured it out after an hour. The instructions creative provides are not very comprehensive. They make no mention of disabling your on board sound in the BIOS nor do they tell you that you BIOS assigns a PCI slot for the sound card.
