What would the point of a clan be if it isn't a collection of players made out of the "best" players and friends you can find, out to pwn all other clans and prove supremacy? Why have a clan if you're not going to "go for something?"

This post was meant out of nothing but respect - I just think these two collections of people are among the best I have seen in over a year of playing hundreds of different servers - if you're good at your job, would you do it for free just because you're awesome...? I often play in gamed with a "CDN" tag, or other similar tags. They often are not to denote a clan and to try and show I rock, but just for fun, and finding others with a "CDN" tag for example.

It's not about making money, the allusion was around the sole purpose of the clan - winning. As the sole purpose of your job is to make money and survive (unless of course you're a doctor or something and you're saving lives).

Envy said it's about making friends and contacts (CDN) and that's true to a respect - but in the case of these two entities which happen to the the highest of the upper echelon (IMO) - I would imagine it's about being the best - which is where my question came from :)

I'm not trying to be difficult, just trying to understand something as you're pointing out - I must not, and that's fine - if I can learn something here good..

I'm discussing clans, not necessarily just clans on NR (these guys I mentioned do play NR, but I'm also sure they play other servers, and CAL as a clan too right?).

If a clan is brought together from amazing players (see afore mentioned clans), I'm going to assume they're not just guys that like to hang around drinkin' and watchin the same TV shows on Friday night...I'm going with they formed to be the best? Can't blame me for that assumption right?

If that was the case, why did so many of the clans we had on TNR over the last year switch out members? 'Most' of the Vis guys were at one time Raged - is that coincidental, they all liked pizza? At the same time, guys who dropped (left, quit etc) the afore mentioned tag weren't exactly the highest end of the crew...did they hate pizza and like salad...or is it because of skill level?

Credibility is another thing - why do stats exist?

If I decided to start playing under the name like (no offense meant) "BOODAH" tomorrow and started impersonating him or some lame shit, how would anyone know who or what I was if it wasn't for some sort of statistics tracking?

If I had a .25kpd and never sniped in a month, you'd know I wasn't BOODAH - stats and ranking may not be "everything," but they do serve a purpose.

Now if I'm in one of the above clans - rankings/stats do have a place if I'm on 10 different servers' top10.

First off, CAL sucks - it's CEVO that people actually compete in. If you're looking for numbers on a webpage that mean something to teams, go look at the wins and losses on the CEVO page. THAT matters, not stat points on a public community page.

If you're playing tf2 competetively, you want to scrim more and pub less. Hence less pubbing, and not caring about our rank. Pubbing still happens, it's just less frequent and more for the lulz.

I think it's more likely to do with the fact that the Vis tags are non-unicode (I believe) symbols. Or something to that effect.

No one who ever plays in a competitive team for real gives a second thought to pub HLStatX/psychostats/etc.

On a second note, there are a bunch of "clans" or teams made up solely of friends, or people who like playing together. Win or lose, they're there just to have fun. Even in leagues such as CAL and CEVO. Also, please note that skill level is very often not the deciding factor on whether a player stays or goes.
