View Full Version : Toronto FC
Dunno if anyone is interested but Major League Soccer started and Toronto is the newest team in the league and Saturday at 12:30pm they play their home opener and you can watch it on CBC.
Already they are 0-3 with no goals for yet...
Now that the leafs are gone I have another team including the blue jays to focus on.

Soccer has got to be the most boring, most over dramatic, bullshit sport to watch ever....if you're playing backyard 5 on 5 soccer it's awesome and fun as hell.
If you sit infront of the T.V watching it and it's slow ass pace.....I pity you...I mean come on I've watched one game for like 5 mins, and no joke, I saw one dude walk back and forth in a straight line for those 5 mins, he never ran or touched the ball.....
Save the time slot for more extreme sports, not enough of them on T.V
People shouldn't be too quick to underestimate the dark side...i mean...north american soccer or MLS cause what I'm seeing is a lot of professional players from overseas. for example, david beckham. i think there is a bright future.
Random hero..it is only your point of view. casual supporters could complain about the slow pace...but but have respect for the enthusiasts. and a little advice...i wouldn't even mention that to an enthusiast fyi it is the most violent sport in the world. i'm not just talking about on the field.
ps. my first impression of them is awesome. danny dichio looks like he eats children for breakfast

walk in a straight line? were you watching house league under 10? if you werent, then i know youre lying.
over dramatic? sure some players dive, but id love to see you sprint down the field and get your leg taken out. or take some nice metal studs to the foot or ankle.
soccer is a great sport, if you dont like it, odds are youre north american.

Peg, I played soccer, for one....when you get hit in the chest by a head butt, you don't grab your face, when you get tackled you don't roll around on the ground moaning and groaning then when the ref ignores you get up and run away.
I've bolted when I've had the ball got my leg taken out from under me in a perfectly good tackle and been able to hit the ground, roll then bounce back up and chase back after the ball.
It is over dramatic

Need I say more?
Rugby....now there's something I'd like to see as a "major" league sport.

wow. that was needless... what with me saying: "sure some players dive..."
thank you for that post.
and great. you get taken out, and get back up and sprint for the ball. here are some problems with that:
1) if you dont have the ball. thats a foul.
2) if he doesnt get the ball. thats a foul.
3) on a professional level, sprinting and getting your back leg hit will throw you off. for this reason, instead of attempting to keep balance and undoubtedly losing speed, you go down and get a free kick.
in rugby they knock each other around. k. thats nice, soccer isnt rugby... in kick boxing they kick and punch eachother... thats a real sport.
btw, headbutt and grab the face?
a) not really.
b) the fact his head snapped back when hitting the ground may do something.

you've probably played backyard soccer with running shoes, go out on a field and get tackled with real soccer shoes(those with the spikes). i would sure like to see you stand up and walk away like nothing happened when i know you'll probably be yelling your heart out.
Im not going to deny that some players do fake, but sometimes you dont have the choice, mostly when you've been playing for 60,70,80 or even 90 mins, staying down on the field so that the ref can whistle is sometime the only way to get your stamina back up. Btw, that example a, the rivaldo incident is a bad example, everybody condemned him for his behaviour.

I heard zidane is also going to LA galaxy today during the toronto FC. plus becks may not have been the best player in the world but it's all about the influence he brings. he wasn't england's captain for nothing was he?

Well...he is playing for Real Madrid, we can consider them a respectable team even if they keep buying everyone. Real Madrid wanted to sign him again, but Beckham refusing and signing a 250 million dollars contract pissed them off and so they started trashing him. As for the mls....i think its a retirement home for foreigners, look at all the ppl that went in this league, pele, romario and now beckham, they didn't get there when they were at the prime of their game, they went there when they were fading away. But Beckham always being the center of attention, maybe the mls will gain in popularity in the USA, not in the world. In short, the mls is just like Qatar, players go there for $$$ when they know they wont last long.

no actually it was a team but it was a half decent guess.....
I'm sorry, take a dive? Only some? All the bloody time, I'm sorry but when you see these "pros" rolling around holding superficial injuries and when a ref doesn't see it or ignores it they get up and run off....you tend to have people like me frown that it's a sport.
If Tie Domi (THIS IS AN EXAMPLE KEEP YOUR PANTIES ON) got bumped and dove to the ground trying to make it look like roughing or for a matter of fact any player did that they'd be laughed at for god knows how long, and if it happened on a regular basis like it does in Soccer people would be turned off of hockey.
There in is one reason why I won't watch soccer, play it? Yes, watch it? No.
Other reasons as follows.
Boring (kick, run...walk.....walk....walk OMG A SHOT.....misses the net....Is that even possible? Ball......net....sheer size?) *Tongue and cheek don't start to cry*
Slow (Do you really need stoppage time?)
Poorly designed (Do we really need that many players and such a large field?)
Go nuts kiddies, wave your flag, get into riots over a game....
At the end of the day I'll be watching Hockey....

theres a lot of sarcasm in my post... so make sure you get it before saying anything.
"misses the net....Is that even possible?"
no. no its not. you playing soccer should know this. the pros are dumbed down unlike your houseleague glory days.
"Slow (Do you really need stoppage time?)"
no, no we dont. thats why so many games have late goals. recently, rooney scoring to win against AC milan in the 91st minute in champions league semi finals.
"Poorly designed (Do we really need that many players and such a large field?)"
no, again, no we dont. half size, with half the players. amirite? go watch indoor soccer. no out of bounds, ice rink size. all that other jazz. this is outdoor soccer. /end.
diving... no boss. there is contact. if it was all the bloody time as said, there would be lots of yellow cards dished out as diving is now worth a yellow card. the sad part is, with your knowledge of watching soccer being at 5 minutes, you really cant comment on such things can you.

How can you say that one of the oldest and most popular sports in the world, one that has the largest international tournament (the World Cup) besides the Olympics, is "poorly designed"? That's just ignorance. If the game doesn't move at your pace, it isn't "poorly designed." Support I thought hockey moved too fast to me, does that mean it's poorly designed, and they should have more players and a larger rink? Not at all.

think about it, in the heat of the moment in other example with france and croatia, he slapped him in the face and he had the oppertunity to get him ejected from the Game and when it comes down to the world cup semi final. we wud all fake an Injury to have the upper hand and no one can deny they wudnt.
