If your computer just shuts down in the middle of something - it's more likely due to a hardware failure. The power supply is probably the first component you want to check, as iirc this is one of the main symptoms of it failing.
There is no way that Microsoft will "crash" your computer due to detecting a pirated/counterfeited copy on it. At best it would lock you would after 30 days - and afaik if you've already got it installed/authenticated, that doesn't happen; instead you'll get this annoying wscertify.exe popup telling you you have a counterfeited copy (which you then have to safemode/regedit away).

PSU's seem to be the first thing to go in most systems. It's because most PC companies put cheap no-name units in, to cut costs, and a lot of people do the same when custom building. My first custom build went through 3 PSU's within a couple years before I decided to pay out for a decent unit.

lol jeff, im in exactly the same boat, went through 3 cheap psu's in about 2 years and said SCREW THAT and dropped decent money on one.

PSU is the most commonly overlooked part of any custom/upgraded rigg.
