anyone selling an older mobo or video card, just enough to run bioshock and fallout 3?

I dont need new fancy shiat, and I'd much rather hook a NR guy up with cash then go down to college street.

Or conversely, if noone is, anyone recommend any places for buying PC's? I've bought all manner of things from like every computer store downtown, but never a PC.

Thanks for help/advice.

Both games require SM3.0 which none of the listed cards above have. Any and all older agp systems from socket 939(amd) to socket 478(intel) will be bottlenecked from their cpus even if you threw in a hd3850 agp card. Better off putting a couple c-notes into a new system.

I think I've got a solution for you, if you're willing to downgrade to an older processor.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b229/rk76/untitled.jpg

You can have my old mobo, processor and I'll throw in a ATI x1950 Pro PCI-E Card that should run everything you need, though you'll have to turn down most of the settings. I'm pretty sure I played BioShock with this setup (certainly the mobo/processor, though I might have had my HD card by then), and Fallout 3 seems to be pretty low-end friendly, so you shouldn't have any problems.

Here's the rundown if you're interested:
CPU - Intel P4 3.0Ghz (http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium_4/Intel-Pentium%204%20531%203.0%20GHz%20-%20JM80547PG0801MM%20-%20HH80547PG0801MM%20(BX80547PG3000EK).html) - But again, it's only the 531 (http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/chart/pentium4.htm)
Motherboard - Intel D915GEV (http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/D915GEV/) - Supported Processors (http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d915gev/sb/CS-026957.htm)
GPU - Connect3D ATI x1950 Pro (http://www.xsreviews.co.uk/reviews/graphics-cards/connect3d-x1950-pro/)

thank you my friend, saved me time looking up those cards.

So... essentially what I was saying is no problem. A few c-notes is no prob, I think I can budget 500$ without incident.

Now does anyone on TNR want a crack at that 500?

AMD cpu

I have always preferred AMD products ever since my very first computer (that I owned lol) with a 1700+ wooo wooo. Sniff those were the days lol.
So much trepidation upgrading a radeon 7500 to a 9000... lolol.

Anyways, KT, that looks wicked, under serious consideration, but as I said I would rather hook some random TNR dude up with the moolah, so lets see if RK pans out.

If not, I'll PM you, hopefully you have a moment to recommend me some specific products in those categories you mentioned.

Thanks a ton everyone

For 500 you should be set:

Palit Radeon 4850 512MB = $195 (165 after mail in rebate)
AMD Phenom X3 8650 (tripple core) cpu= $137
A-DATA DDR2 800 240pin 4GB Kit = $68
Asus M3A78-EMH HDMI motherboard = $91
----
$491 + tax.
If you do the MIR, you could get a Phenom X4 (quad core) which is $180

This was using canada computers prices.

Don't worry about giving TNR money, if you can do it get a new rig - always a better idea then buying second hand :)

Long story.

a guy at work does that every year. There is some website he is on and basically you drive someones car for them from southern ontario to wherever they live in the winter (california, florida, arizona, etc..). They pay for gas, your loging and food, and for your flight home.
So you get a mini vacation out of it. nice arrangement.

Thats the part I just beat lol, finding to the rose.

So I took my 500 bucks and went and got a 360 instead... :/

Its awesome though, really. fawk.

I got a ton of games including bioshock, and I just got gears 2 and played it for like 6 hours yesterday, that game is bloody brilliant.

Bioshock is definately living up the expectations though, its freakin excellent.
Atlas's voice acting is excellent, THE SUB NOOOOO lololol.

I'm late coming into the thread, but...

The HD 3850 will still keep any AGP mobo kicking. Tom's Hardware did a pretty good review of it, with a single core processor. The price is around 100-150 on NCIX.
