As some of you may know, one of the grade 10 students at Lorne Park, which is the school that myself, Cray and Gooch go to, was injured and is in critical condition at Sick Kids...and he is not expected to live.

Though I didn't know him personally, I'd just like to ask for your support and to inform you of this.

Thanks,

Dave

I feel sorry for him and his family, but I also feel sorry for the guy who did it. Imagine having to live with that?

Very sad, it brings a black eye to high school sports in Peel .

Wow, it's going to be interesting to see what actually happened here. I was fortunate enough to be a major part of my high school athletics at Gordon Graydon being the captain of our Rugby and Hockey teams a member of our wrestling and track and field team and a Captian when I had to play Football at Applewood due to the lack of a team at Graydon. Through out the 5 years of competitive high school athletics i was able to be involved in something every day, and only once did i see anything in which a fight or major altercation occurred. That was at a High school hockey tournament in Fenlon Falls, and i was there as a spectator. I have seen some big injuries, but that was as part of the game, through clean play.

This situation shocks me. The incidents of altercation were extremely rare just 6 years ago. Now they occur far too often, If i'm not mistaken, St. Joe's had a huge brawl during the high school hockey playoffs this year resulting in a police presence at all of their remaining games.

It's a very sad story. I feel bad for all involved. I truly feel for Manny's parents, who have asked that no charges be laid against the other person. That's truly respectable. I do, however, understand that the police are responsible for any charges, and have to make the very tough decisions in these cases.

Regardless, nobody here is any further ahead of anyone else.

The cover story of the Toronto Star today is about Manny, and they have some more stories in the GTA section about the vigil last night that I attended.

As much hope as everyone had for him to pull through he has passed. This is a tragedy.

Last night a vigil was held at our school and hundreds of people showed up to light candles and lay down jerseys and flowers on the field. Unfortunately, Manny was taken off life support when his grandparents arrived at the hospital this morning.
