Ok so, I haven't been on my desktop PC for a while, and so I decide to turn it on today since I've got some time, and I'm now getting a disk boot error. I went into BIOS and set primary boot device as Hard Drive but no luck. Let me know what info I need to give you and things like that to help me out. Thanks guys :)

Will it boot off your CD drive ?

Is the power connector to your hard drive plugged in tightly ?

go to the site of ur hd maker and there should be a dl for a cd to boot from, with that you can run some tests and maybe fix the problem

Before you go doing too much - open your case and see if the LED on your hard drive is blinking in a repeating pattern. If it is, your drive is toast, and likely no test you perform is going to save it.

That is, if your drive has an LED, I've only had 1 of about 15 HDD's have LED's on them.

LED on a harddrive?

Sometimes. It's an old-school thing. Hellz, I feel old. I've been repairing computers for over fifteen years now.

Raise your hands if you remember the Miniscribe 3650? Or ESDI, the pre-cursor to IDE technology? Hell, I still remember the first 40MB hard drives - and the settings for the Seagate ST-157A, drive type 14 in your BIOS! (The two most popular were type 14 or 17, back in the day!)

LOL - I'm so freakin' old.

I only remember a huge box the size of a car in our classroom that punched stupid cards. WTF is up with that shit. My life became complete when the PET computer was invented.

Hell Yeah! I remember our Grade 5 class had one of the original Commodore PET Computers... It even had the CBM logo on it... Good times!

First thing to check - is there a floppy in ur floppy drive?

If you are comfortable opening your case and know the hardware, just make sure the IDE and power cables going to the hard drive are secure and plugged in.

Does your machine normally make noise when the disk is accessed (opening files, loading Windows)? If so, do you hear them anytime during boot up?
