I have a Ratpadz GS mouse pad, when I first got it, it was sweet. Movement was really smooth and it was responsive and everything. After about about a month and a bit, it was noticeably worn. It's still usable now, and is better than my desk, but I can feel a difference between the centre and the edge. The pad was only $15, but I expected more than the three months I've gotten out of it.

I sent Radpadz an email yesterday telling them what I've told you and they replied to me today with this

You have apparently put your Ratpadz GS to heavy use and it sounds like you
have just worn it out! The Ratpadz GS is made of ABS by injection molding.
The original Ratpadz and the new Ratpadz XT are made of HDPE and are cut
from a solid sheet. Folks have been using the original Ratpadz for over 5
years and are still happy with them.

What I can do for you is this. If you would like to have the Ratpadz XT
(which it sounds like you need), I will be glad to send you one for the
price of the Ratpadz GS. Just go to Paypal and pay $18.99 to the account of
<email removed> This would be $9.99 for the Ratpadz XT and $9.00
for Canadian shipping. State that you have received this email from me and
you want the Ratpadz XT. Please include your phone number as Customs
requires it on some shipments.

I hope this will help you. If you decide to take us up on this offer, please
send me an email with your name so I won't miss it.

Let me add this. Ratpadz has two models, the GS and the XT. The GS is the cheap model that costs 15USD (shipping inc to US) which is also $15 at Canada Computers where I bought it. The XT isn't sold retail in Canada but it is their top model and is a copy of their original, which has had good reviews. On their site, the XT is 25USD (shipping inc to US).

It looks like she's subtracting the cost of the GS from the XT and adding shipping. It's a tempting offer...

What would you do?

There's no doubt, if they were equal price I would go with the Icemat, but double the price?

Maybe it's not a big deal, as I really shouldn't buy a new pad right now. It looks like the XT is a really decent pad though. If it's as durable as I've heard (one year warranty on the XT), and as nice as my pad used to be, it seems like a good deal.

Unless you have to go out and buy a new one every year, then the Icemat would be a better value in the long term. :-)

the icemat 2nd edition is superior to all, except it might not be big enough
it comes with icemat skates for your mouse so the contact is perfect no matter what mouse u have

I'm on a steel pad QcK+, and quite frankly, I love it. Size is second only to comfort imo, the icemat is pretty small as gooch mentioned, 10x12 inches, I think mines somewhere around 18.5x16, I question how comfortable glass would be on your skin after a while, but If you're looking for a new feel, give it a shot perhaps

I had an original RatPadz for 3-4 years, then replaced it with a GS -- crappy. I just bought a new Func Archetype 1030 instead, and couldn't be happier. No more RatPadz for me.

If i can get a Pad to last 3 years like Rev's did, and for $20, why wouldn't I do that

Plexipad? What are they gonna sponsor me to do, make foreign policy, play Empires?

Their's is only $25 though...
