One (as Mano says) "pimped out" 1U Rackmount Server in Grabber Orange with Monster Energy decal kit. It was in my Office at the TKJ LAN 2007, so if you saw it, you know it's hawt!

:))

In all seriousness - I'm selling my Rackmount Server, which would be perfect for hosting websites in a co-location agreement with your local ISP. The system itself is an Intel P3-500MHz with 512MB RAM and (providing it works) 40GB Hard Drive. It has integrated on-board video and LAN, and is ready to install your own OS.

I'm only asking what I paid for it, which is $150. (Actually, I paid $150 for the Server without the Hard Drive, so you are getting a deal.) If you know what to do with it, and can use it, let me know!

I'll post pics if you want them.

lol, I would consider it if I weren't setting up a tower server with similar specs (p3 950, 418 mb RAM, 20gb HDD, Ubuntu Server Ed.) tomorrow :p

Good for you! Stick to your guns! By the way, why are you posting? I never asked a question... :P

Actually, I just bought the rackmount a few months ago. If you recall, I posted a few pics of the before and after paint job. I spent $150 on the box, shipping it here from the states, and getting some memory to replace the crap that was constantly failing. All good now.

As for the hosting - you're right, if you only host one, it's better to pay for it, but I'm hosting approximately 10 right now, with another 10-20 on the horizon, and I've got some 'other' plans for my new ... O NOEZ! I've said TOO MUCH!!! ;)

Think about this - host a co-located server, run Azureus/uTorrent for super-quick torrent DL's, and then connect to it remotely to re-DL the software from it. Consider the speed at which you're connected at the Server (T3+) to do the original DL from a shared resource (i.e. Torrent) and then you have uninterrupted connectivity when you copy it to your local system. Awesome.

I hear ya. This is more for off-site hosting. Where I co-locate, it's $69/mo for a rackmount, or $249 for a tower server. You can do the math. If you're hosting out of your home (like I've done for years) then it's fine with the tower. I'm just going 'bigger and better' to provide my customers faster speeds, better connectivity, and an unshared connection.

Damn right! Imagine the guy going to the Server farm and says, "Damn - you can't miss THAT Server! Damn, that's sexeh!"

A bastion of orange tranquility in a sea of blackness and blinking lights.
