I have no further update from Dave's brother as to the status of his health, what hospital he is in and how long his stay in the hospital is going to be. I will update everyone if I get a reply from Stephen.

I'm sure I can speak for everyone in saying Get well soon Fabby, TNR needs you around so get better real fast brother.

If anyone else hears or receives an update, please post it so we know how Fab is doing and perhaps we can organize a TNR visit and get well gift for Fabby.

Yea, it's serious stuff. We've had several cases here at work in the past few months. We ran out of isolation rooms a week ago.

Anyone know the nature of the infection? Like what bacteria he is battling? I didn't think Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus posed a problem to young adults.

OK, here is the latest on Fabby from his brother Stephen:

Hey Gerry
Sure I think he'd love some visitor's to kick the boredom. It's been a very frightening week although he appears to be recovering well. He is now out of ICU and into a regular room. I think he is going to be there at least another week if not more and I will let him fill you in on the details. He is at Henderson Hospital.
Thanks for getting the word out to the guy's, I know he's a little lost without his computer.

Thank's again
Stephen

Guy's, Winston mentioned that perhaps we can rally a few of us together and go for a Fabby visit next Sunday. Any of you in or around the Hamilton area (or further away if you want to make the trek) are welcome to join us for Lunch and then over to see Dave.

I would also like to see if we can put some funds together and buy him something special as a get well soon gift. Any suggestions would be appreciated, along with your donation.

I just got off the phone with Dave - Fab in the hospital. I have to tell ya that Dave is one lucky guy. The Bacterial Infection he got was apparently one in a million, and he is lucky to be alive.

They had to cut the infected part out and are leaving the wound open to make sure it heals and make sure the infection does not come back. He could be out of commission for 6 months to a year, and in hospital for months !!

He was really happy to hear me call and really needs some words of encouragement and hope. For those of you who are close(er) to him, I can provide you with his room phone number if you want to give him a shout. I'm sure he would appreciate the call.

Next Sunday Winston and a few of us will be gathering in Hamilton for Lunch and a visit to see Fab. If you want to come and you need a lift, post it here and I'm sure someone can accommodate you.

Lastly, if you feel you can donate a few dollars to help get Dave a nice get well soon gift, send your PayPal payment to admin@northernresistance.com and be sure to say its for Fabby's get well gift in the message section of the payment. Depending on the donation total, I will match it if we don't have enough for something SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTT.

Thanks in advance for your support. We wish Dave a speedy recovery - be sure to think of him in your prayers at night (for those of you who say them).

Cheers

Gerry you know my situation, I'm sure I could put up a good ammount of money when I get there, just gotta wait for the bank to clear everything by friday.

Make sure that everyone rocks a TNR shirt on sunday. I'll be in touch with my work tomorrow and I'm sure my boss won't mind (infact considering the situation I'm not asking for the time off I'm pretty much demanding it I've covered enough shifts for them.) if I take the day off or something, both managers are cool like that so I doubt they'll give me much trouble.

My car can seat 3 not including me for a car pool.

Alright people, here is the deal.

We are arranging a visit to see Dave in Hospital next Sunday. Depending on your location and weekend plans, we will rendezvous at Armadillo's on Front Street - directly across from 151 Front Street (you know, where our Co-Location provider is) for lunch at 11:45am.

From there we will car pool to Hamilton for a visit with Dave, then car pool it back to Front Street.

We are planning on buying Dave a sweeeeet get well soon gift. The price is steep for the time we have to get the donations - approximately 325 to 350 in total. I wont say what it is because if someone manages to get Dave access to a computer or something he will see this. Trust us, its is a sweet gift. If you want to know specifics, contact me via MSN, im always online.

Parking is available all around Armadillos in Toronto, so this shouldn't be a problem for anyone - its pay parking though.

Please post if your coming so we can try to make sure we are all seated together.

If you are going to donate to the cause, please do so as early as possible so we can bring the gift with us. If you have any questions, please ask.

I will be coming for lunch and the visit to the hospital; however, I will be leaving directly from Hamilton to come back home. I can take someone to the hospital (for company) but they would need to hitch a ride back to Front st. with someone who is returning there.

I have some additional good news regarding Dave. Here is a message that I received from Dave's brother today, which is totally unexpected as he was anticipating being in hospital for a long time. We will have to contact Dave tomorrow or Saturday to see what the prognosis is and adjust our plans accordingly.

Gerry,
Some great news! Just to keep you up to date, young Verile Dave is recovering faster than expected. I recently got off the phone with him and he received his stitches this afternoon, Doctors say if everything goes as planned they will let him loose in 48 hrs. Woo hoo!!!

Make sure you call in advance if a plan is still in the making for a visit. Dave said if he gets out before Sunday everyone is welcome at his apartment in Stoney Creek.
Nice to see all the get well wishes on his online card, Dave is very lucky to have such good friends as yourself and the crew at TNR.

Here is another update:

I spoke to Fab in hospital just moments ago. He confirmed that he should be released from Hospital Sunday by around noon. However the time is not set in concrete, so I will be phoning him again tomorrow at 11am to try and firm up a time for our visit.

I figure by the time we have lunch in TO then drive to Stoney Creek to see him, it should be around 2:30 ish.

For those coming to Toronto to meet / carpool for lunch, lets meet at 11:30 to start an early lunch. Then afterwards we will leave to go see him, and by that time he should be home from the Hospital if all goes as planned.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to PM either myself or Winston.
Dave is really appreciative of the support he has received from TNR. Well done people.

Hey guys!

Wow, where to begin.... thank-you all sooo much for your support! Its been a really tough 2 weeks and hearing about your wishes online and even recieving calls from the likes of Gerry, Winston, Mike & Mark Niser, and Adam Calamity Gundam really really helped pull me out of the dumps!

What happened??

Well , the last week in may say about Tuesday i got a small pimple on my pubic area (yeah gross i know but whatever lol). During the week it became kinda sore as i lean up against a railing to install roof racks all day for 10 hour shifts at the ford plant so it was rubbing against it. needless to say i got pissed and tried to pop it in a stall during one break. By that friday i had flu symptoms sooo bad i had to call in sick friday night and miss my nephews birthday on the saturday. By this time the light red sorness around the pimple had expanded about 6 inches wide just above my jonston.

1230am that Saturday night i was totally delerious... vomiting sweating couldnt sleep, advil and cold and flu tonics such as neocitron did nothing. I called my ex for a ride to the hospital cause i couldnt even drive i was so ill but there was no answer. i ended up calling 911. both fire and ambulance came and their final comment before taking me to emerge was " Sir? you have the flu... you want to go to the hospital for the flu?" I knew something wasn't right and said yes.

In emergency i sat in a wheelchair sweating bullets barley able to lift my head but i could clearly hear the female abulance driver and the emergency receptionist joking that my "lower pimple" was probably an std. (a meeting betwee me and the ambulance review board is still pending). The emergency room doctor took a look at the sore area and and ordered x-rays which imediatley showed the sevarity of the infection (as fas as i understand you can see small gas bubbles in the skin). I was hooked up to 4 bags of saline solution because of severe dehydration and shipped imediatly to the O.R. Last i remember they were jamming a hose down my throat for breathing incase they had to take me in to remove more later.

They kept me in icu for 3 days. i only remember from wed on waking up in the hospitals Oncology wing in a semi private room. They had pumped me so full of morphine the last few days i was really screwd up. I was hooked up to cathiter and fed a steady stream of inervenous antibiotics. The wound had to be left open for the last week and a half to be sure that any and all signs of the infection were gone. They removed a stretch about 12-16 inches wide and 2-3 inches deep. It had to be packed with bandages and taped up twice a day with a group of 5 doctors stoping in from time to time ripping it off and jamming thier fingers into it to check its progress.

I continually asked when i could be stiched as i was becomming increasingly uncomfortable and depressed. They were always tight lipped and wouldnt tip thier hand. I was terrified that it might come back or jump to my bloodstream which im not even sure is possible... Last Teusday they were so impressed with the healing that the booked me to be stiched up thursday and i was just released today!!! Im still very soar and have a hole the size of two loonies and a half an inch deep that was too wide to close that will have to heal on its own. Sooo i'll still have to have a nurse visit me every day for the next two 3 weeks to bandage that for me. Staples and stitches are expected to come out in two weeks....

All in all i count myself lucky... left any longer it could have gotten to my liver or kindneys and even taken my legs.

I want to thank everyone at TNR for your support and being there for me.... you'lll never know how much it help pull me through on those nights were i felt i was in prison/my own personal hell.

A special thanks to Winston, Gerry, Kathy and Phill for making the trip up to see me today and especially to everyone who donated to get me a sony PSP and grand theft auto (which i havent tried yet) thats so over the top and totally not necessary guys thanks sooo much!!!

All in all i count myself lucky... left any longer it could have gotten to my liver or kindneys and even taken my legs.

If it was that close to my crotch I wouldn't be worried about losing my legs. You're a very lucky guy.

Anyway, hope you get better soon.

Sorry I couldn't make it to see you Dave, but I'm glad to hear you're out on your own and feeling better.

Say hi to that nurse for us too

It was good to see you Dave, you really had us worried there at first. Please thank your brother for me for keeping me in the loop on your progress, as it allowed me to fill in the troops.

We are all really happy to see you up and around, although you have some major healing to do, so rest up man. There is plenty of time to get back to this gaming stuff when you are better; we aint goin anywhere.

Cheers

Make sure the nurse washes those "special" spots thoroughly!!! ;) Maybe she can help you relieve some pressure??? hahahaha

Who ever said the nurse was a girl!? lol

Nice to have you back Dave! Thanks for filling everyone in with the full version of your story so I didn't have to regurgitate my memory (or lack of) from yesterday.
