As of Saturday, consumers will have to fish two quarters from their pockets to make a local call from a Bell pay phone.

For people using a credit card or a calling card, the cost will be $1. In Bell's request to the CRTC to increase the rate, the company noted that local pay phone rates have not gone up in 25 years. Bell said that with fewer consumers using pay phones, many of the units are not generating enough revenue to cover their replacement cost.

I guess it makes sense. I can't remember the last time I used a pay phone

*Shrugs.*
And the ones that did use them just got more of a reason to ask a friend with a cell phone if they could use it for a second.

I guess my time for searching for a Cell Phone couldn't have come at a better moment....

50 cents a call makes cell phones a bit more cost effective now (though they're still a ton of money for what you're getting really)

I get a Blackberry for work this fall, but after that, I'm not sure what I'll do for a cell phone
