Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if I'm being presumptious, but I would like to ask the Northern Resistance community for some help. I SUCK AT COUNTERSTRIKE SOURCE!!!!! <that was hard to say> I've bought two online books which claimed to help improve my skill and I watch all the NR members during the match to try and get some ideas on how to improve (I usually get shot dead early in the game so I have plenty of spectator time). The books were good but I've only improved marginally. The "flick'n'click" is currently beyond me. Trying to Strafe-Stop-Shoot-Strafe seems only to make me an easier target for everyone else. When I watch others (last night was NRM Reverant, CoreLogic, NRM Dominitrix, and few others) I can't seem to figure out what they do. It seems like their opponents slow down for them. At times I swear their target reticle isn't even on the opponent and they get a headshot.
I never know if my opponent is using cheats, they are really good, or that I just suck. Very frustrating.
My goal is to be at least competitive in the pubs. I am nowhere near that point. Any help the Northern Resistane gods of CSS could bestow upon me would be greatly appreciated (..that was a shameless act of grovelling on my part). I look forward to your posts.

a lot of css is reaction time and arm / wrist control. if that fails, spray and and slowly move your crosshairs to the ground

cray is so right. the faster ur reaction time and the better wrist control u have, the easier the game is. that honestly only comes with practice..... there is numerous games u could play. hell there is even a video i could send u that is supposed to help with reaction time (the video is just meant to increase ur mental thinking speed for a short while after watching it because of how many images, sounds, etc. it is sending at you all at once... i know from experience that the video does (some what) work for thought processing speed (which helps with reaction time)

practice practice and some more practice, however another big thing is this Game is Angles, Angles are Key in the game, if you have a good angle of a corner chances are an opponent wont get a shot off before he is killed. and my advice for now wud be stick with the ak and m4 cuz those guns are pretty basic- Aim for the chest shoot in bursts of 2 or 3 and chances are you got a headshot

June 5th, 2007, 04:39 PM
^^^ actually the TMP is the master of headshot's as well. aim @ the chest and spray. u will get a headshot 9x out of 10 (or u'll die.... TMP does less dmg than the AK or M4 but it's so embarrassing (or annoying) to be killed by one LOL)

Sound is a big part of my game. Make sure that you have the setting set to what you are using in your Audio tab (ie. Headset).

Lessons from me are 5 dollars an hour. You'll be pro :). haha But yeah do some intense deathmatch servers to increase your aim and reaction and such, but youll also need game sense which comes from experience from scrims mostly because pubs are pretty random at most times. But if you just want to roll people in pubs get a nice spot with an awp and just aim and click. Go to awp deathmatch servers that will make you have more control of your awp.

Seriously gang, way to go with the helping tips.

A little tip that will give you an edge in cs is to get "in the zone". Get yourself pumped for every round. build more emotion in your game. If you like energy drinks, have one before or during a match and you will find if you are more intense, you will kill a lot more. that doesnt mean you won't die any less though.
use these tips and play deathmatch for 15 minutes, then join NR and you will have an edge on your opponents.
I find that now i'm no good at cs anymore cause i'm too casual with it. I used to be a hardcore gamer with cs when i was around 16-17 but now i'm almost 21 and I can't get any kills in a round based server like NR. I still own in deathmatch and gungame though.
anyway, try getting more intense if you want to go pro.

I watch alot of pro demos to get better, not to mention practicing and doing alot of death match. Pay attention more to people's positioning than to how they aim. The better you position yourself, the more time you have to get that shot. If you stand where your opponent expects you to be, hes gonna shoot you right away, but if you are sneaky, you can get that shot just as hes starting to aim at you, cuz he was looking for the usual spots.

1. Smaller crosshairs make long range fire easier, but controlling recoil harder. I use cl_crosshairscale 4000, makes my crosshair about 4-6mm across, took some adjusting to be able to control it up close, but made long range a dream.
2. Boxes and Corners can be fired through, though it's not usually a good idea, an awp HS through a corner of a building is still a HS and is still fatal, following opponents through objects takes alot of practice though
3. Recoil. Control it. Burst in rounds of 3 or 4 shots whenever possible, let your recoil get down, take cover. Some guns have random recoil, but the rifles all fire in a 7, learn to map this 7 and you should be able to spray with some accuracy.
4. Play smart. Don't push if you don't have to. Always have a way out of anywhere you go, check all hiding spots systematically when entering a new area. Be VERY patient when playing defensively, listen for important calls like "bomb down" and watch the radar so you don't get assfucked.
5. Teamwork. Can be hard to come by but if you can get a couple of people to work with you effectively you will probably destroy most of the lone-pub-trolling-gunmen.
6. Controls. Lower sensitivities work better in the majority of cases, I personally use an 18.5x16 inch mouse pad so I can get a full 720 degrees out of my rotations, but I know Venge plays on 8.5x11 and gets somewhere around 90 degrees. Also, scroll wheels are teh_bad for changing weapons, learn to use your number and possible bind separate keys for each of your grenades (bind [key] "use weapon_hegrenade") also "weapon_flashbang" and "weapon_smokegrenade".

yea i agree with Mano's sound comment, it plays a HUGE part of the game, its basically what separates people who play well from everyone else.
I think the other thing that everyone is forgetting is patience. Not running into a room with 4 enemies in it wont exactly get you those "sick" videos you see on youtube but if you do run in there you have a 99% chance of dieing immediately. If you wait at the side of the door when they come out u have a 99% chance of at least killing the first guy through that door. Probably the second too.
You just have to rely on your sound to be able to prefire the doorway just a second before they run out.
Oh yea, heres a good tip for begginers. ALWAYS have your cross hair at head level, lots of people let it drag down cause they watch the ground as they run, make a habit of keeping it up. That way when someone jumps out to surprise you, even if you accidentally fire from getting scared your first shot will hs them, or at least be closer to it than putting 4 bullets in their feet.
And another thing, dont watch Dom to get tips ;)

I can't beleive no one has mentioned it - SCRIMS1!!1
You can get lotsa stats just participating and following orders in scrimmages.
Also... If you want to get at least some kills, use a shotgun. It is cheap, has a wide spray range, and can be manuvered during jumps and running. give it a try, it will at least get you up to a .5 kpd.

most of all you cant just get good, you have to work for it. the best lessons are the ones you learn yourself.

DM can help your aim, but it wont help your game sense worth a damn.

Like Mano said a lot of what you should do is use a good headset with sound pretty high (Make sure not too high otherwise a nade or close AK fire might render you slightly def for a second and your ears ringing for a few hours, it happened to me and it AIN'T fun.)
Once you've learned to navigate most maps and know where people seem to like to go start using your mini map like a guide. When you hear about a force pushing or rushing an area and see thier dots appear head for them, but never directly incase they are trying to flank...then do the flanking yourself. Often in the midst of fire and nade spam you can still run at them and they won't hear you. But the moment you close in prepare for prefire and assume they're expecting you.
Other than that learn the maps, when a flash or smoke comes your way the memory of where you last were might save you from getting smoked hardcore.
Oh and meat shields, meat shields, meat shields....
If you don't mind dieing for your team to win this doesn't apply to you...but if you want to learn awp, or have the bomb let others lead and follow them (NOT TOO CLOSELY!) That can really get your team in trouble.
All in all, the key to this game I find is knowing your map, when you know the map you know where to go and what to do.

Yeah, the Northern Resistance had a great DM server. Something has happened though.......budget cuts I suppose.

Meat shields......yes I've done that. I am always expecting someone to call me a coward and say "Move up to the point, Jarhead!" But when they die, they usually get a few rounds into the opponent and I can go in for the easy kill.

Aim for head. Shoot. Watch frag videos. Search "JDSource" on Google. Play more. Play longer. Play smart. When you die, spec your team's best player. Don't rush stupidly. Play Deathmatch. Play aim_ maps. Don't play 24/7 Office servers. Don't peek too much. Buy a headset and a microphone. Use sound. Walk when necessary. Listen for footsteps.
This is all the advice I can give. :)

I even LOOK like that when I play CS, I grow a mustache and turn black. It's pretty cool. All my black friends think it's awesome.
