I hope it's fun, but something inside of me wants it to fail. I'll download it now though
It'll be popular, the mystique around the Iraq war is intense.
Also, they'll be a ton of people wanting BF:Source

even I am downloading this. allthough Im just going to check it out downstairs (the computer I suck on, cuz I lag like hell lol) if its good, since I dont see many people in the DoD server you should switch the DoD server to mabye this mod. of coarse, thats under the idea that its good XD

well comon guys it IS a beta after all and like all such things will require patience and feedback to get things improved just like the early days of any game CS included - all I'm saying is it might be worth trying and at least revisiting now and then to see how it progresses

harb, only greeny has made any real negative comment on it, and the link he gives isnt even the actual trailer. the trailer itsself looks pretty good even.

You mean this trailer??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBGIQ7ZuuiU&name=Insurgency%20Counter%20Strike%20Source
I can't seriously believe that you would think that was actually good. It's a poor release, even if it is actually a beta.

Not to mention they did a horrible PR job telling the massive community when it would be out.
I was in the IRC channel for all of their release dates, and they kept letting the timer roll down with no explanation as to what the issue was.

I played it for onwards of 2 hours last night, it's strickly a team clear and move game. There's no being a hero and running anywhere.. half the time I couldn't even make it to cover where my team already was.
I think they need to improve the characters movment, it great you can't RUN and shoot, but it's stupid you can't strafe while running ! That kinda thing I don't like about it.

yea, the running is a bit off in the game.
i just played it for the first time. imo its pretty good. keep in mind, this is the 1st beta released to the public. it has a few bugs, and a few things need to be worked out (objectives, running, reloading etc) but overall i think its great.
however, right now, to win as the americans, you need to know where you are going, and talk to eachother. otherwise, you might as well not play. in all servers the insurgents walk allover the marines, but thats strictly cause the marines have no idea what to capture... unless they have 1 guy that knows how to use a mic, and the rest of the team listens.

well unlike bf2 where u cna rush around shooting it up i think insurgenycy is always goign to be about good team work - much like tf2 will be i look forward ot trying it out in the next day or two

I just played INS.
it's pretty unspectacular. I lagged out pretty hard and had to restart my computer. What is so new or different about it that warrants the attention it deserves? Because it's in Iraq, because there's no crosshair? It seems like DoD:S with different skins and weapons, and it seems like it is simply cashing in on the war in Iraq.
There's plenty of Mods that require teamwork, again, why is this special?

im sorry... i agree with the lagged out, but how exactly do you compare it to dods?
dods = run and gun. the guns are inaccurate, the pace is comparable to unreal tournament.
insurgency = anything but run and gun. guns are accurate, the pace is rather slow.
if you think dods requires team work, i suggest you actually play it. if you have played it and still think it requires team work, it means you havent played it long and dont know your way around the maps or how to use the guns.
insurgency is buggy... there are tons of bugs, a lot of them make no sense (ie negative score for marine rifleman) but i think you forget that this is the very first public beta release.
whats different about it is the fact its a realism based game, that itself puts it in a class with 2 other games that i can think of (aka AA, and RO). it also rewards team based play... there is no run and gun, there is no simple way of capturing points (what with needing 4/5 people to capture them).
again, it is buggy, it does need work, but i think there is plenty of potential. however, to get the best experience out of the game, you need to communicate, otherwise there is no point... you will be lost, you wont get the help you need, and you wont help your team mates.

I know what teamwork is, yeah, this game forces it out of you....congrats?
Lots of games require teamwork, dystopia and Empires being great examples.
I mean, I play hours of Empires a week. That game is hardcore teamwork, maybe I've just taken it as a norm.
I said DoDS because it's a CTF game that's very similar, except for weapon balancing (run and gun vs lurk).
I know it's a beta and it has bugs, in fact I've been posting on the INS forum about the issue. I expect bugs from mods, it's part of the process, but this mod has had ample opportunity to learn from other mods about things to look out for in a first release. They failed to learn from past mistakes.
This game may surprise CS players with its teamwork and use of capture points, but really what more is there? It's a dust2 with flags and no crosshair. Why does it take this long to release a copy of DoDS with different artwork and variables?

well for myself i value teamwork greatly which is why i hate pubbing and hate it more so when people dont comunicate as generally they are just out for stats whoring by themselves - what gets me about insurgency is that it has potential and that unlike the battlefield franchise etc its free and with a little patience ie checking back with it every coupla months it should shape up to be a nice alternative to playing what we normally play - i'm in no way suggesting this should take over as THE game to play just that its got potential to be a nice alternative to fire up and have fun with ......eventually.
At the end of the day if you dont like the mod then delete it and dont play it hehehe

Yea but Harb, like every great free Mod!
As soon as it gets good enough to play, it becomes good enough to Pay

snap. the commander is pretty essential... once you figure out how to use him.
calls for reinforcements, sets way points (helps a lot since you dont have a map...). i didnt know this till now, some redneck was going crazy on the server cause the commander wasnt doing anything.

lol doolittle well thasts porlly a bit far off as far as paying for it goes - as for hte rest i played a little yesterday and man its hard. It does definitely remind me of hte projec treality mod for bf2 tho ie no radar and no gun sights :D for that matter if any of you are into bf2 and have ever tried project reality mod for it you'll see the similarities
I think i'd have to set up my own private server to get used to doing anything before playing publically - speaking of which however there does seem to be quite a few servers out there already so support for it is quite strong atm
Was just wondering if any of you guys want to get together for a team play some time? Or maybe wait for the next few patches or something? In any case it would have to be a friday or saturday for me so i can stay up late when u lot are on hehe
