I understand you had an interview this morning with Business Objects for the Systems Application Developer coop role.
We would be thrilled to have you work for us in Vancouver and would like to make you the following offer.
Job title: Systems Application Developer
Salary: $3,100 per month for the first term, $3,300 per month for the second term. We would also give you 4% in lieu of vacation & $1500 relocation allowance.
Hours of Work: Flex work hours
Name of Supervisor: Jody LeBlanc
Duration of position: 8 months
I just got that in an email, not sure what to do. Im seroiusly considering taking this but trying to bump it down to a 4 month term.
What do you guys think? I probably wouldnt be able to play on our pub's from Vancouver BC :(

You'd probably have ~100-115 ms ping. Not horrible, certainly playable.
I'd say take it. Vancouver is a really nice place. If you haven't been anywhere in Canada other than Ontario, check it out :)

I say take it - you'll be making the kind of money that I make, and no chicks in Vancouver know you already. :p ...don't forget to the pluses to working 'under' a woman!

What the hell do you have to lose? 4 months working in Vancouver will provide you with much needed experience to help you along the way. And it looks insanely good on a resume- especially if you can actually learn something from it (or pretend you did).

and no police officers, high school teachers, public school teachers, little-league coaches, or baby sitters in Vancouver know you already. :p

You should go (I'm thinking of going there too), the bandwidth speed is faster then what you guys have in ontario but there's a bandwidth cap :(. Oh and you do know Vancouver was once the #1 city in the world to live in right?
P.S.
How do you get those job opportunities all the time???

Yeah, but Wise is hot 'cause he's fly, you ain't 'cause you not.
Try putting "Hot 'cause I'm Fly." on your resume or C.V. you'll get way more call backs.

Vancouver in the Winter time? Sounds pretty good to me. 8 months is a long time though, do you parents know? I say try and get it 4 months, but take it any way.

If you go - keep the shaved look, and tell everybody you're the Stunt Double/Body Double for Michael Rosenbaum. They film Smallville out there, and you'll pick yourself up all the Shorties, yo.
(I don't believe I just said that. I'm just trying to speak to `Wise's age group.)

"For the time being, it's a centre for great talent. We're using it as a place to locate talent rather than to get a specific piece of work done"
lol bitches, not only am i fly, but im talent too

It actually says locate talent so your fucked once you show up and they ask you to do something..........
Anyways I would go for it, but housing costs will be steep out there so if you know someone you could stay with it would be a huge plus.

cuse most of the posts are saying 'go for it'
I's gotta ask,,,, whats the cons in going? what would keep you from going? what do you have to lose?
(if you don't have good answers, include me into the 'go for it' group)

Some Cons:
- my mom is already depressed about me leaving and my dad said "God forbid you find a gf, then u'll drop out of school and never come back" lol...
- i had already arranged housing for the winter term here in waterloo
- another set back would be an 8 month term puts me back an academic term in school, so im going to have to double up on school terms when i get back.
- moving to the other side of the country is hard
BUT :: beyond all of that i went ahead and accepted the offer for the full 8 months. For some reason i got an email back from them saying that its "FANTASTIC NEWS!!" im not really sure why they're so happy lol? turns out i had like 5 friends of mine trying to get this job too but we dun tell each other lol (it gets competative here). They're well known here in Waterloo most of the time when i tell ppl i took a job in BC they cut me off and say "Business Objects? You lucky bastard"

Glad to hear it Peter.
BTW them con's are just small things to consider and work out, nothing earth shattering, so glad you went for it.
career wise you will find the degree gets your foot in the door (interview), the experience is what will get you the job!
