View Full Version : OTTAWA - The LOLFL

For years, I've always wanted to get back to the days in HS when my friends and I would all meet up at a field on a sunday, toss a ball around, and occasionally lay a hit on someone that leaves them wondering why everything smells like burnt toast.

Believe it or not, there ARE still a few people in this city who are more than willing to suit-up every now and then, and pound the living snot out of each other for a few hours on a football field....but we're all getting old, so it's only every two weeks. (Bruises and aches/pains seem to take more time to heal now, apparently.)

AND WE'RE RECRUITING MORE PLAYERS!

This upcoming Saturday (November 21st), A group of guys I've been recently playing with will all be taking the field for the third installment of our NO-PADS-FULL-CONTACT football.

Now, admittedly, when I first thought of posting this here, I wasn't necessarily sure if any of the Ottawa TNR Peeps would be interested, BUT, I figured I'd at least give everyone the chance to throw in their hat, if they so choose.

So far, the games average about 2 1/2 to 3 hours in total, and have ranged anywhere from 8 on 8 to 12 on 12.

Basic Rules of the LOLFL:
- No highlight tackles, we all have jobs.
- No cut blocking.
- 4 Downs, 20 Yards.
- Punting Allowed
- Trash-talking encouraged.

If anyone's interested in playing, I'm more than happy to welcome ANYBODY out to the field, as long as you drop me an email first. (thelolfl@yahoo.ca)

No Fees.
No official Teams. (Teams are chosen 20 minutes prior to each game.)
No crybabies.

Gametime: Saturday, Nov 21st, 12:30 for warmups/teams, 1:00 kickoff.
Where: The Swamp. (Gloucester High School Field)

Looking forward to anyone that decides to join in.
Cheers!

-Commissioner Lindsay

If I knew anything about football, and if I was in the area, I would totally be there.

I'll toss the deets up for the NEXT game after this one, once we make a concrete decision on whether it'll be two weeks saturday, or sunday.

Cheers.

S'the plan.
We'll tone down the hitting slightly come snowfall though.

Oherwise, too many broken collarbones, I find.

snow doesn't cushion? or is it the frozen ground / ice underneath... that would make sense.

I'm going to play, just so I can say, "Ow, my glasses!"

Great, in two weekends, i'm working nights, so a Saturday game would be ideal for me.

No pads... snow or mud games were the best. No passing, just grinding it out in the mud, what more could you ask for? Also hey, I am Oger.

I vote for "Any Given Sunday".

"Jentlemennnn"...

The Game that was SUPPOSED to happen last saturday was an Epic-Grade failure, with a RECORD number of late-entry "Oh fuck I'm Hungover" excuses.

Thus, the games have returned to their roots, and are officially Sundays, from now on, again.

The next game is actually THIS sunday, though.

Thus, Sunday, 12:30 for warmups/teams, 1:00 PM Kickoff.

Want the Location? PM me or EMAIL ME (radiojock@gmail.com) and I'll hook you up.

Cheers!

I ended up wrecking my shoulder when I landed shoulder first onto a frozen patch of ground; went through 2 years of physio, and I still have certain mobility restrictions on my right arm. How I wish I could throw a football again pain-free.

We want pictures of the game, and X-rays of the aftermath.

Radiojock
November 30th, 2009, 02:19 PM
No X-ray's needed from this past weekend's game, after a record low attendance, we had to shift the game to half-field ball, 5 on 5.

Was still hilarious, tons of pretty decent tackles, fun had by all.

AND ONE NO-SHOW.

Ahem.
;)

Next game may not actually feature me IN it, with the holiday skeds messing my life up, but I'll post the date and time for anyone interested, anyways.

Bah, No worries, dude.

Fun had by all, and you're more than welcome to join us next game.

(Admittedly though, with my hectic sked, as the lead organizer/roundup guy, chances are it may not happen till REALLY late December/early January.)

That's cool, more snow/padding and less grass stains.
