Yes yes I know. The forum homepage is all broken.
I'm painfully working on getting the settings back up and running on it. Unfortunately my backups are starting to prove quite useless.
Anyone feel like giving TNR the Christmas present of the newer version of vBulletin for $215?

Yes - what would the new version bring?

The feature I was working on when I screwed the forum up here was social groups.
Members would have the ability to create groups like in Facebook. The nice thing about these groups is that you'll have the option to moderate them yourselves (perfect for your music picks threads). It would also be ideal for small groups that get together often (for example, an Ottawa dining group) to collaborate in.
I was also peering into the idea of having data storage available (at a price) for photo albums which would have the ability to be integrated into your groups (and blogs at a later date).
The new version would most definitely come with a newer theme as well.

You know, when i said the error is happening again, i didn't mean to fix it naow....i guess i'm still used to the "it'll get done when it'll get done" way of doing things.

Groups would be handy for Ω, then we probably wouldn't have to look at pages of botspam.

Wait - I don't like this. If you get social groups for gatherings, I won't be able to post in the threads anymore. That's not fun.
As for blogs... you mean blogs hosted here at TNR?

It wouldn't be that one. That one is coded in the older version of vBulletin. It would be an entirely new theme.

You were drunk and bloated from wings, mano had to do whatever you said, he was scared for his life. I know I was!!
Also, I don't know if I like this idea. I hate facebook and I don't really blog, I like things how they are!
Derf does, however, need to stop trolling/posting in all the threads

Can't we just use Elgg (http://elgg.org/) for free if we wanted a broader social forum integration?
We use Elgg in the federal government, and it seems to be pretty solid

Awesome thanks dude! I was kinda hoping for someone to step up with the full amount but I'm thinking that I could have been off my rocker at the time. I'm going to start a separate donation drive for this I think.

Yes. The homepage runs on a piece of software called vBAdvanced (vBA). The new version of vBulletin comes with the features of vBA integrated which should make things a little more seamless between the front page and the rest of the site.

I did. Need more. ;)

We used to use a free forum solution. It was sufficient at the time but we gained a lot more functionality when we moved to vBulletin. vBulletin has a huge following which develops additional features and has a great support base.
Before I chose to migrate to vBulletin I evaluated close to 15 other projects. None of them came close to providing such a solid solution for us.

I've decided to pay for this out of my own pocket as an apology for my hiadous.
Xzinum, thank you for your contribution. It will be added to this month's goal :)
P.S. I'm really excited about the power the new site will offer.

The version of vBulletin officially scheduled for release on the 21st of December. I'll need about a month or two after the official release in order to work out all the bugs and put all the customizations back in.

spelling nazi corrected :)) the more you know!
also, Winston... that's a bit harsh on yourself, no? you're a busy guy, it does not follow that you need to impose a punitive fine on yourself (I felt like using a bit of formal logic to justify my liberal arts studies somewhat )
you put a lot of work into this site. serious TLC! and I am really quite thankful for everyone in the community here in every respect, so I figure it's high time I made a monetary contribution as well once I figure out if my paypal is still active. just kudos all around! I will try to figure that out before my exams are done (allowing generous amounts of time due to my sloth and such).
just thanks everyone for being awesome, please keep it up!
