I have seen a lot of nasty hits and some are pretty clean and some are just at the heat of the moment, but this one; just look at it he had his elbow ready to go before he made contact. The poor guy looks like his career could be over..

I thought he played well for us in world juniors but a hit like that, to be honest i hope he doesn't come back to the game that was just f..... ridiculous.

Heres the video of the hit

That hit was absolutely terrible. I am disgraced that he even played for team Canada after that. Hope he never plays again.

Wow, that was a blatant elbow with intent to injure.

And with that being the second elbow with intent to injure in the past, what, 2 months? dude seriously needs to reevaluate his reasons for being on the ice... if he ever gets the chance to again.

That poor kid that got it, man...

This is was the reason cormier's ice time was limited through out the world juniors. He has proven himself to be a predatory player. Most of this is due to the fact that cormier plays the game differently from the rest of the players in the Q. He knows he can take runs at guys and won't face any form of on ice retribution for it. Most teams in the Q don't carry enforcers, and for the most part those that do cormier can simply utilize his skill to get himself away from any possible payback.

He needs to be put in a position where some one can put the reigns on him. Hopefully going to New Jersey next year next year will allow Jacques Lemaire, Scott Stevens and Tommy Albelin to control him. The fear of payback also wouldn't hurt. playing with men in the NHL as opposed to boys in the Q will definitely result in cormier "learning respect" the hard way.

If he gets the full season boot from the Q, I highly doubt NJ will bring him on board. Because of his age at the start of the season he is ineligible to play in the AHL, we may see him end up in the ECHL, CHL or IHL surrounded by goons and skilled beer leaguers.

A Remparts spokesman said Tam(Mikael Tam) suffered brain trauma and some damage to his teeth. He is to undergo a brain scan Monday afternoon and if it shows no deterioration in his condition, he may be cleared to leave the hospital on Tuesday.(sportsnet.ca)

According to KuklasKorner and other various reports, Tam is in stable condition with no brain damage and a few missing teeth. Patrick Roy, the owner and coach of the Quebec Remparts (Tam’s team), has reportedly filed a complaint with the local police.(http://stayclassy.net/tag/mikael-tam/)

Patrick Roy? Oh, the irony.

The hit on the Swede was questionable, but watching it a good half-dozen times, it wasn't a hard hit to begin with. The Swede pulled away missing much of the impact. That being said, it was dirty.

The convulsions were horrible in that second one, and I hope Cormier doesn't play another game this season. My prediction? He'll date Elisha Cuthbert.

EDIT: Also, this gives much credence to Don Cherry's crusade to bring back soft elbow pads. This wouldn't happen if the elbow pads were cushy like in my days playing hockey.

He should be thrown out and banned from hockey. Im a big hockey fan, but killing was never a good strategy for winning the game, and lets face it... that kid is lucky to be alive.

That is a disturbing video I hope everything works of for that young man and Cormier's career is over. With all the head hit's in the NHL this season the last thing we need is another player coming in with a history of dirty hits. Not a fan of that Toronto prospect either he had some pretty dirty hits in the Junior tournament as well. Nazem Kadri is a douche.

I clicked the second link first and was like ok that was dirty but not sure what everyone's up in arms about. Then I realized someone was showing the earlier hit and clicked the first one ... disgusting.

So it sounds like Tam just lost a few teeth, no serious injury past that. Still a dirty hit.

Like Zidane's head butt was any cleaner? Yeah soccer isn't a dirty sport. * Sarcasm * I guess at least he stayed true to the rules of soccer and didn't use his hands.

The fact that he could have hit him clean bothers me. If he got him with his shoulder, it would be a bit dirty but still legal. What he did was troublesome. Not only because of the result, but the fact that he really did feel the need to give the elbow and hurt the guy. The fact that the guy was convulsing at the end, you just hope that the guy comes out of it better than Steve Moore.

See - the difference is in soccer, the hit wouldn't have connected but the kid still would have been on the ground "convulsing".

while we are on the topic of generalizing a sport; why is it that within the nhl there are more penalties and fights than actual hockey?

I dispute your statistics sir

http://www.nhl.com/ice/teamstats.htm?fetchKey=20102ALLAAAAll&sort=avgPenaltyMinutesPerGame&viewName=penalties

At most a team takes 16.9 minutes of penalties a game, at least is 8.9. The average is 12.98 with a standard div of +/-2.08

thank you.

I dispute your assertion that I suggested all soccer players dive. Some do, and in any given (upper level) game there are several flagrant dives.

I also dispute whatever it is you'll dispute from my... errr... disputation?

Also - thumbs up for KT and his stats-magicks.

you want me to find statistics on the number of dives in a soccer game?

yea ok. i searched for it on fifa, but there are no stats on it. maybe ill send them an email?

you gonna bust out a "hockey is more of a team sport because look at all the assists within any given game" stats now?
