No 3G models in Canada at launch. No ETA either

I'm not sure it has anything to do with the providers but rather the frequencies Canadian providers use. I don't think Rogers/Bellus said "No, we don't want those things on our network", but more like Sony didn't make a radio compatible with Canadian frequencies. Can't you get those devices already "unlocked", like say in Hong Kong?

If they don't work in Canada they don't work on AT&T, T-Mobile or most of Sprint in the US (AFAIK)

I think it's more like, if they work on AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint, it doesn't automatically work on Rogers. Assuming you can get an "unlocked" device, it may work with a Rogers SIM.

Rogers also operates on the 850/1900 Band, as does Bellus. It does not automatically make it work with Rogers/Bellus. I think it's more of a hardware/software thing than a network thing.
