Just wondering if someone could tell me how to change my IP address, is it in ipconfig ?

ipconfig will only release and renew your ip, it does not change it. Most bradband providers assign IP according to the MAC address of your network card. And that's assuming that you are not connected through a router.

What you can do, if you are not on a router, is to artificially change your MAC address, also known as spoofing. It can be changed (if the network card supports it) in Network Connections. It can also be done in the registry and is not reccomended to novice computer users.

Once the MAC has been changed, power down your modem for atleast 30seconds to a minute and power it back up.

Another thing to try is shutting off your modem for a day or two, because if you aren't connected to the network your IP goes back into the address pool and someone else can take it in that period of time. <- suggestion courtesy of the Gibson Research Corporation, makers of SpinRite

lol just out of curiosity... what exactly did you do that you need to change ur ip :P

nothing really, just trying to get to an account manager website for one of my games and it locks up trying to load the page and continually refreshes. I am able to get to it on another computer so I am hoping by changing my ip address i will be able to get to the web site so I can manage my account

Just check for how long the lease on your IP is, most of the time it's 48 hours. Once you know how long the lease is, just use your computer until about an hour before it expires and power down your router/computer or modem (which ever is your net connection).

After you've waited past teh expiry time, power it back up and you'll get a new IP.

You could also try a ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew, but that doesn't always work.

Rogers assigns IP's based on MAC as far as i know. I had to do it on two occasions.

I also believe that they give you a couple of chances to call them up and just tell them that you want a different IP. Just as long as you don't do it too often. Don't quote me on this, but I remember I customer that was having problems connecting to Cogeco (cable as well) and we removed her router and it worked. We called up Cogeco and we confirmed that the MAC address on the router was causing the problem because she got a virus and was spamming computers so they banned it. Maybe try doing it the other way. Try using a router to connect to the net and see if that does it for you.

I don't think it will be cause it goes against what I know, but who knows.
