This. Unfortunately, the public option is never going to happen since the health insurance companies have bought out not only the republicans but also many democrats. And Obama said during his campaign that he wouldn't do signing statements. Le sigh.

Also, I've been really interested in this whole issue. American politics is fascinating and heart-wrenching at the same time.

This issue doesn't need to be conspiratorial. If people are really up in arms against change, then politicians will follow. I don't know what the numbers are, but i'm betting there isn't an overwhelming majority in favour of Obamacare. Now, our opinion is that there should be, but what we're really upset with is the American people. In the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, they're vigourously trying to destroy the economic ability of their country to medically care for them
