    Re: High Ping in TF2

I caught mine at the tale end of a 500+ ping spike.

Tracing route to 67.213.67.71 over a maximum of 30 hops

    1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1
    2 29 ms 25 ms 26 ms 10.222.128.1
    3 30 ms 32 ms * vl-201.gw03.bloor.phub.net.cable.rogers.com [66.185.90.1]
    4 20 ms 10 ms 10 ms te-15-1-0.gw01.bloor.phub.net.cable.rogers.com [24.153.5.29]
    5 9 ms 20 ms 13 ms so-2-2-0.gw02.bloor.phub.net.cable.rogers.com [24.153.7.181]
    6 10 ms 10 ms 11 ms pos-3-0.igw01.front.phub.net.cable.rogers.com [64.71.240.29]

    8 23 ms 23 ms 19 ms bb1.yyz02.spdnetwork.net [208.68.88.130]
    9 * * * Request timed out.

Same one that arch spiked on, oddly enough. Time for the noob questions - I know the first number is my internal LAN-IP to my router, but what's the second number? And why do I start out as a 29ms?

I'm connected via a Linksys wireless router, so I logged onto my router console and did the traceroute.

    traceroute to 67.213.67.72 (67.213.67.72) ,30 hops max,40 byte packet
    1 10.222.128.1 (10.222.128.1) 10. 0 ms 40. 0 ms 10. 0 ms
    2 66.185.90.1 (66.185.90.1) * <10.0 ms <10.0 ms
    3 24.153.5.45 (24.153.5.45) <10.0 ms 10. 0 ms 10. 0 ms
    4 66.185.80.174 (66.185.80.174) 10. 0 ms 10. 0 ms 10. 0 ms
    5 64.71.240.53 (64.71.240.53) 30. 0 ms 30. 0 ms 10. 0 ms
    6 198.32.245.81 (198.32.245.81) 10. 0 ms <10.0 ms 10. 0 ms
    7 208.68.88.130 (208.68.88.130) 10. 0 ms 10. 0 ms 10. 0 ms
    8 * * * Request timed out.

So, somehow, my router is pinging at under 10, yet I'm not lol..

    Re: High Ping in TF2

seems like it's mostly been fixed, but the lag i was talking about was persistent, and it looked like a problem with only SOME of their gateways (maybe even only pos-4-0.igw01...), which is why not EVERYONE on rogers was getting it. normally, i ping around 10-15 to the server ingame, but i was fiddling around 100ms. right now, i'm pinging maybe 20-25 ingame, but I think that's because someone *cough*mano*cough* broke something and had to move stuff onto the server. overloaded ftl.

I don't think what I did would effect your ping times.

    Re: High Ping in TF2

The router that seems to be causing the issues doesn't even seem to be part of Rogers' network.

It seems to be an internal thing at the 151 Front St data center...

Perhaps you could ask Peer1 to look into it.

I used to get random FPS problems every ten minutes for about ten minutes. Entering those settings Boodah had helped me.

Do those commands carry over between sessions? Can I only enter them once?

They should save, if not just add them to your config in the TF2/CFG folder and make it read only.

This will prevent them from ever changing. Sometimes when you join a server with lower settings, it'l automatically lower yours, and it will remain that way. Read only!

    Re: High Ping in TF2

Well, as Boodah well knows, I had quite the adventure last night/today with my Linksys router. After reading about how crappy the factory firmware is on the WRT54Gs, I decided to take it upon myself and load up some new, 3rd party firmware on my router and live life large. Somewhere along the lines I fucked up, and learned more about networking and MAC addresses then I ever intended, but finally I have things working again smoothly.. now lets see if it even makes a difference on my pings, lol.

Thanks for the help, Boodah, I'll buy you a beer if you make it out to a LAN

Haha my pleasure my friend, I'm glad it's all working smoothly for you now.

I am going to try and make it to the next lan for sure.

Aha! It's why I bought the WRT54GL, so if I had problems I could simply boot something new and try all over again.
