(I'm sorry, it's impossible to look at this and not giggle, lol)
Awakening's Scout Duo - coolhat & DeuceBox
Veterens of the NR TF2 Community, coolhat & DeuceBox have risen quite far from their humble pubbing beginnings here on our servers. They've done quite well in their post-NR team (reliq, currently known as Awakening), taking 5th in the CEVO Sennheiser Open and coming oh so close (twice) to an even higher finish. But before they rise to the un-reachable height of super-stardom, I took a moment to chat with them on behalf of NR.com about their illustrious gaming careers.. and who's better, lol.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
NR.com: We'll start with the basics - name, age, teams, etc.
coolhat: My name's Chris Sutherland, I'm 16 and have been playing since beta. I was on the Northern Resistance first and been playing with reliq since about May.
DeuceBox: George Williams, 19, played since beta, played on NR and reliq/ferveNt/Awakening.
NR.com: How long have you & Deuce been playing together as a scout pairing?
coolhat: We've been scouting since about December/January.
NR.com: How did you guys meet up with reliq?
DeuceBox: We both quit NR after CAL/TGL, then saw a scout combo position available on reliq and were asked to try out.
coolhat: We decided to keep scouting together since we had been playing together for a while. We found out that terridskills (ie. zero) was looking for some scouts, so we got a tryout with him and a couple old members of reliq and they decided to pick us up over others even though we sucked more then them, but we seemed more likely to stay with the team for longer.
DeuceBox: Then we were on the team the next day.
coolhat: The main reason that we joined though is because zero spelled reliq with a q - so we knew he was cool.
NR.com: You two have kind of evolved from pubbers to a community team to a more set squad and, now, a CEVO-P calibre group - can you put into words what the major differences are between the two levels?
DeuceBox: Good soldiers.
coolhat: Coming from a community team, it was always for the lulz but never did really get serious, nor did anyone really wanna put time into getting better. Also, it's hard to evolve a group of like 10 people with a community team. With a set squad it seems like we can all try and work on getting better with each other - focus on teamwork and whatnot - since usually people have extensive fps backrounds so they've already got the talent. Also, me and Deuce have no real Fortress-genre background, which is why we still get outdueled by dinan and zs scouting.
DeuceBox: Yeah, we both played CS, but no dueling backgrounds.
NR.com: What have you guys done to make up for that?
coolhat: We just try to stick together, because we'll probably both miss half our shots - but when we focus fire a target it's hard for them to react. And we bait our demo.
NR.com: lol - reliq/ferveNt/Awakening as a whole has gotten some notoriety lately with your performance in the Sennheiser - was the Open more of a good thing or bad thing for you guys as a team, considering you came so close on two seperate occasions but just couldn't close the door?
DeuceBox: Well, before Senheiser, we were'n really a recognized team. At least now we can be considered half decent.
coolhat: It sucked getting comebacked on twice, but the tournament was fun nonetheless - and it can only make us better.
NR.com: So no real issues looking forward to CEVO S2? You guys are pumped and ready to bash in some heads?
coolhat: Well I hope we do but zero has stated if we don't, he's going to drive down to where virulent lives with his m4, lol. But seriously though Season 2 is gonna be funny and we're just hoping that we can break deez cuffs.
DeuceBox: Our scrims have been kind of shitty as of late which could be due to a number of things. We recently booted virulent (demo), and recruited uN]defined (again) to take his place so we have to work on our teamwork and stuff. We've also had a hell of a time trying to find a new medic. Mach, our current/old medic, doesn't want to medic because it blows so we're actually having virulent back, to play med while Mach decides if he wants to play med for S2. There are also a few maps that we could lose very easily on due to a lack of practice.
NR.com: Has playing at a high level changed how you enjoy the game, or do you still like to dick around in a pub every once in a while?
coolhat: At first playing at a high level didnt, I still just pubbed whenever I felt like it. But now the only time I pub is to play bball for the lulz.
DeuceBox: I've stopped pugging entirely. We might do a couple scrims per night, but other than that I only spend a little time in pubs and play the odd game of bball.
coolhat: I let Deuce play with me sometimes but it's hard for him to keep up in bball.
NR.com: Got any scout idols? Dudes you love to play against or try emulate/learn from?
coolhat: I hate playing against anyone good cuz I suck but enigma is probably my favorite to watch. And Deuce tries to emulate me a lot.
DeuceBox: Not really, I'm pretty happy with the way I play scout right now... just waitin' for coolhat to get on my level.
NR.com: Favourite map?
coolhat: Mariokart. lol, okay badlands.
DeuceBox: badlands, granary, well
NR.com: Final words/shoutouts?
DeuceBox: Game, Blouses.
coolhat: Shoutouts go out to The Northern Resistance, my boy Eli who deed it, my boy marv-o, my boys the irish rovers, to mach for always keepin it wavy, to noid cuz hes lulz, to prezz because he's a sick soldier, and last but not least to zeroskillz and dinan for keepin reliq strong and keeping us alive even with the tumor (virulent).
Thanks to both guys for taking the time.. and now, because it's so damn funny, a word from my boy Eli.
