HQ Linking to Youtube Videos

I've been trying to figure out how to do this for a while and i finally figured it out - thought that maybe you guys would want to know how to link the High Quality version of a youtube video.

Turns out all you have to do is append '&fmt=18' to the end of the URL. This will give both HQ sound and Video.

Here's an example:

regular
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY72YW-vqZA

high-quality
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY72YW-vqZA&fmt=18



Special Notes:

This will work for ALL videos. Even ones that don't originally have a "view in high-quality" link located on the page.

However - this does not work for embedding. Embedding a video will always give you the low-quality version.

I found this out earlier, didn't really test it extensively, but I found with some videos the quality difference was negligible. I did however find the link on how to embed hq videos, but the link I saved died and I no longer have it, shucks!

when i clicked on the regular version link, there was a link just under volume controls, which said 'click for high quality' lol.

I think you missed the point of the thread - up until now it was impossible (pronounced: unknown how) to link directly to the high-quality version and only a small proportion of the videos on youtube even had the link under the video in the first place.

My friend told me about this. Some videos actually display an option to do this. Much of the time, this doesn't change anything (maybe because they're just normal, crappy quality youtube videos reposted).
