I just noticed that skullcrusher decided to take it upon himself and close the thread that brownbottom has create. All I have to ask is skullcrusher why for even a split second do you believe that brownbottom was trying to use TNR as a source of promotion or advertisement for GiBS? He *specifically* stated that he is willing to TAKE the GiBs server off of TNR's hands - as that is what TNR wants according to what the homepage says.

I would appreciate it if you would show brown bottom the respect and courtesy that he is willing to show you. Please leave this thread open, or brownbottoms original thread so we can provide option to pleasing TNR's needs.

I'm under the general impression that you have no fucking clue what a server is or how it operates. More to the point you seem out to lunch on the social dynamic at play here and until you do I suggest you shut the fuck up.

I'm gunna do you a favour and spell this one out for you before this thread gets locked.

Brown offered to take GIBS off NR's hands, which is all fine and good but their is no part of GIBS which can be given away for free that would not be better done from scratch. If Brown feels like he should start an array of SRCDS TF2 servers that match the GIBS spec, that is fine. If he wants to start a forum and gather a community, that too is fine.

He did not however, state that he wished to buy the GIBS hardware, GIBS IP address block, or a GIBS HLStatsX account. The only thing we could offer would be a copy of the SRCDS files/folders but there really isn't anything new among them and more to the point, NR does not want to hear complaints when code we aren't being paid to host starts breaking.

The reason the thread was locked was that if Brown pursues the means propagating GIBS he has listed then what he is doing (essentially) is founding a brand new community, of which he is the owner, named GIBS. We at TNR have never condoned the open advertisement of or recruitment to other gaming communities of the same genre.

If he wishes to pursue his stated venture we wish him all the luck in the world, but any recruitment to or advertisement of must be done off NR webspace.

Hey dread. This is pretty simple actually. TNR owns the boxes where Gibs "lives". If they can rent the boxes to somebody, they make $ and Gibs lives on under new management. If they can sell the boxes to somebody, they make $ and Gibs lives on under new management.

If somebody (chief brown bottom) opts to run Gibs on his own boxes at his own expense, TNR makes no money and Gibs lives on....which is in conflict with TNRs best interests. Therefore in volunteering to keep the Gibs brand alive the chief is actually advertising for a competitive service in TNRs yard. Something no self respecting business/gaming community would allow.

Now, if Brown would like some help setting up an SRCDS server from scratch, we'd be more than happy to provide help in doing so. As far as specifics go relating to the Gibs server, we're not willing to provide that (mind you, it's easily obtainable via simple observations).

Please, don't take this the wrong way. It's not as easy as saying: "Here's Gibs! Have fun!" If it were, we'd certainly do that. Running a server is complicated, especially when it's this comprehensive.

While TNR is trying to suggest that it will not make money with Gibs gone, I thought the problem was that they were making no money with Gibs around.

I have to admit feeling a level of frustration with this situation. TNR seems to have a problem and I am willing to resolve it for them by taking it away. And its a financially sound solution. Either way, I have no intention of stirring the pot.

No offense, but it seems like the point in your point is either fabricated or simply generated from alot of personal confusion.

1. We are losing alot of money while trying to host the GIBS servers.

2. Removing the GIBS servers will drastically lower our hosting costs, and the sentiment it has generated seems to be boosting the morale, and contributions, of long time NR members. ("hate" is a strong word, try "disagree")

3. You said you want to take GIBS off our hands, fine, but there is essentially nothing to give that is to your requirement. We will gladly point you in the right direction to setup and maintain a TF2 server and community, however unless you wish to purchase one or many of the parts of GIBS that are actually costing us money, then there is nothing (tangible or otherwise) we will be handing over. Except the name, feel free to take that.

No? You are basically trying to start up GIBS elsewhere. While you are more than free to do so, you are not free to advertise your new servers and/or community on this forum. But what you missed, is I didn't ask for anything. To be honest, what in any of my posts if anything led you to believe I was asking anything from TNR. To be honest, I just wanted to give gibs a new home and keep a good relationship with TNR if possible. TNR did house Gibs when it had no home. And I am sure I am not the only Gibs member who is thankful.
Actually, I would be willing to pay to keep the server going for another month. Or even two. The intention was that Gibs would use it for another month or so while we get our servers running and the next month, the money goes towards your pot but the gibs servers can be taken offline. However, I had no intention of purchasing the hardware.
