    Mumble

    Hello admin of computer servers.
Would it be possible to setup a Mumble server?

    http://mumble.sourceforge.net/

It uses a cross platform voice codec that's available on Linux, OS X and Windows. Currently our Ventrilo server only works with clients connecting from a PC running Windows. This is due to the fact that the outdated GSM codec that our Ventrilo server is using is not available on anything other than Windows.
Mumble also reduces "vent lag." Trust me, use it once and you'll know what I mean. It makes a huge difference in competitive matches.

    Thanks!

We could run it simultaneously with vent. Just to test it out for now. If we like it then we'll start to move over. If not then we'll stick with the status quo.

I'm 100% for this. The quality is great and among competitive people there's a large install base. I used it years ago with Empires when it was really beta and it worked fine

As a bonus, it's free to use

I will agree with you to a certain extent, I own a vent server that I ping between 0 and 1 which you can not beat (and no I don't host it myself). However that being said when your dealing with a wide range of people that live in different locations I do agree that mumble is nicer, however I personaly hate the layout of it. Ventrilo in my opinion has a much cleaner look to it.

so we're gonna ditch an effort to push to superior software cause it's not pretty? I vote 1200000% for mumble.

Mumble overlay ftw. At least now I know which idiot is talking as opposed to having to guess and "accidentally" troll the wrong person.

Are there any server rental sites for this program? I don't think our Linux box could handle a large server like that and wouldn't want to put it on one of the Windows boxes for security reasons.
