I still want one. seriously, it's gotten to the point with electronics that unless it was made in the late 70's / early 80's, the QA in the product is so shit that you actually have to spend upwards of 400% purchase price of comparable product to get something that won't fuck up within three to five years.
my family has various hand mixers and blenders, etc that are older than I am, and they still work as well as they ever have, near as I can tell.
(also, I was at a second cup and they had two blendtec blenders which they used to make my iced whatever the fuck drink. I lol'd)

A lot of older machines in general are made with larger parts. A machine with a lot of smaller moving bits and pieces (i.e. all current things) doesn't have the same lifespan. You can look at car engines as an example; older schoolbuses use these old monsters of engines that seem to last forever, but the fuel efficiency is terrible. Newer engines require a lot more maintenance but they save buttloads of gas.
