that's pretty fucking retarded.
I hate when Apple does shit like that for no good goddamn reason... other than boosting their profits, I suppose. :\

I know the iPhone has a dropbox app, and since only cavemen still use dongles instead of the cloud I'd say I'd be good to go :P
i think apple is pissed about USB because it competes directly with their iPod market. So they refuse to support it unless they have an extra "tax" on it.
I think we can all agree this product is a letdown, but so far there are no killer devices in this category.

I still think it'll make a fairly big splash in the market in spite of all its blatant shortcomings to us savvier people, at least with the whole ebook / enewspaper thing, since apple is a huge brand name and joe schmo average and apple fanatics that will buy anything they put out will provide the initial impetus.
honestly, I abhor anything that isn't a tactile keyboard for anything resembling regular text input. situating it between a laptop and a phone is an odd decision in that regard. (yes, they have the adapter dealio, but I really don't see why they didn't make it a detachable screen, kinda like the laptop Mike linked earlier on)
I tried using my roommate's ipod touch the other day and found it to be a pain in the ass for web surfing. Sure, it's nice to have, but the fact that it doesn't have a slideout keyboard (yes, I know why they did that -- wow factor, form factor, UI design, good enough for most people, etc.)... I just hate typing anything on that stupid thing. for me, that's a deal breaker. I'm sure if I used it as mostly intended (one touch apps, occasional and infrequent text input) it'd be great, but if you're going to give me a convergence device, you can't make it suck so hard in one area that I'd be liable to use it in on a regular basis. (yes, I am not the typical user, etc.)
oh wait, now I remember why. because they're afraid it'll cut into their existing markets...
I still think they're being retarded about this whole thing, but hey, that's because I know how much better this could've been, even with them retaining most of the anal retentive lockdown they're known for![]()

btw apple is also basically forcing publishers and in turn amazon to change their pricing model for e-books. with the 30% cut apple takes on subscriptions == bling bling ching ching ching for jobs and shareholders
i can't make any informed suggestions as i haven't been keeping up on readers, though a coworker brought in a kindle and it's very nice to handle.
